Position Summary
The Medical Technologist I is to perform histocompatibility testing, including HLA typing by molecular methods, PRA, antibody identification and flow crossmatches. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance associated with patient test procedures for organ transplant and clerical tasks that employ the LIS to accurately order and report test results in a timely manner.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform HLA typing, antibody screening and identification, and flow crossmatches using established laboratory techniques. Interpret different and complex reaction patterns. Identify probable causes for any irregular or atypical results.
Perform quality control monitoring and record keeping, daily equipment function checks and scheduled preventative maintenance procedures.
Prepare reagents required to perform analyses. Monitor reagent supply levels to ensure adequate levels are maintained.
Assure compliance with accreditation standards.
Attend continuing education sessions and review literature to remain proficient in the latest procedures and testing techniques.
Instruct students and/or new employees in test procedures and policies.
Assist with research and development of new procedures to update testing procedures.
Rotate being on call for refrigerator/freezer alarms and emergency specimen send out
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


High school graduation or equivalent.
Meets basic standards and qualifications for laboratory testing personnel under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Subpart M, Section 493.1489.
