JOB SUMMARY
The Attending Physician VII (Endocrinology) shall engage in the practice of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolic disorders. Practicing at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital with assignments located throughout Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS) providing clinical care to adult patients with a variety of endocrinology and metabolic problems including diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, thyroid cancer, pituitary, adrenal, parathyroid, and gonadal dysfunction. Provides primary care in the diabetes clinic, partake in administrative and academic activities, conducts research, and serves on committees adhering to all federal, local and department rules and regulations upholding the highest standards of professionalism.
Typical Duties
Supervises and teaches fellows, residents and students during sessions in the diabetic clinic including Type-1 group visits, insulin pump clinic, and multi-disciplinary difficult patients' clinic and endocrine clinic including general endocrinology, endocrine tumors clinics, combined pituitary clinics with neurosurgeons, Radioactive Iodine (RAI) therapy clinic and thyroid biopsy clinic.
Consults and supervises various educational and management activities of APNs, and Diabetes educators from the system-wide Network Diabetes Program (NDP).
Participates with in-patient consultation on monthly or biweekly rotations where the attending is in charge of a consult team to deliver consultative care to hospitalized patients with endocrine, diabetes and metabolic problems; medicine ward rotations 1-2 per working year on the in patient floors, as needed
Participates in bi-weekly rotations of supervision of hospital diabetes care using real-time electronic review of hospitalized diabetes patients supporting Diabetes Quality Assurance
(DQA).
Utilizes e-Consult to document patient care and treatment plans
Presents in hospital and university grand rounds and in national meetings.
Applies and administers research grants, conducts independent research and supervises the research of fellows
Develops and conducts quality improvement projects or activities in areas pertaining to specialty, subspecialty, and in-patient hospital team
Participates in the development and supervision of programs in special clinic areas
Participates in medical center standing committees and on special ad hoc tasks
Performs all other related duties as assigned.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited college or university
Licensed physician in the State of Illinois or be eligible to obtain before starting employment
Board certified in Endocrinology or have the ability to obtain Board Certification or Board Eligibility prior to starting employment
Current and valid Illinois Controlled Substances License (ILCS) or have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment
Current and valid licensure with the Federal DEA or have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment
Successful completion of a subspecialty fellowship in Endocrinology or have the ability to complete fellowship prior to starting employment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
Knowledge of application and administration of research grants
Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
Attention to detail, analytical and organizational with problem solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices incorporating the use of electronic health record (EHR)
Ability to meet department and divisional productivity thresholds
Ability to train by presenting concepts and demonstrating tasks
Ability to meet appropriate confidentiality standards for protected health information (PHI)
Ability to work effectively in teams across disciplines
