Job Description

Duties of a firefighter include, but are not limited to, preventing, suppressing and extinguishing fires; protecting life and property for citizens of Springfield, Fire Protection Districts, Mutual Aid Districts and assigned Districts; mitigating hazardous materials; providing emergency medical service; assisting in vehicle and other rescue areas; and engaging in ongoing training programs. Current starting salary for a first-year probationary firefighter is $57,239.60. Hiring is not anticipated until February 2025. This position is covered by IAFF Local #37
