OSF Healthcare System seeks a Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Assist management in overseeing and directing work of technical personnel engaged in performing various routine and complex laboratory tests. In doing so, establish work priorities, organize, assign work to Clinical Laboratory employees, and conduct daily surveillance and analysis of results on all shifts for accuracy. Performs more complex and-or non-routine testing procedures and regularly checks validity and accuracy of test results obtained by laboratory personnel. Performs the duties of lab technical personnel on a regular basis. Independent judgment and professional education and certification are required. Perform required quality control and calibration procedures. Verifies accuracy in patient information and specimen acceptability. Testing performance and assessment includes the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of such examinations. May provide feedback to manager or Supervisor on employee performance reviews. Perform instrument maintenance/troubleshooting procedures and resolves or assists employees in solving complex problems related to instrumentation and/or procedures. Notify appropriate person (i.e., manager, supervisor, risk manager, etc.) of problems related to equipment/product defects, and important information encountered in dealing with physicians, patients, visitors, or other personnel. May collect and process patient specimens from all patient age groups. Function as a technical resource. Provide theoretical information and bench instruction to employees and/or students. Disseminate professional knowledge, information on current trends, and case studies to employees and/or students. Develop new procedures as required to increase quality of laboratory results, reduce costs, and/or increase effectiveness of staff and section. Test new procedures and assist in implementation. Conduct evaluation and implementation of new laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Update section policy and procedure manuals and meets and works with staff to keep them informed, trains employees and demonstrate new procedures. May be responsible for inventory control, monitoring to assure uninterrupted laboratory services, and researching costs and conservation of supplies. Conduct and complete various proficiency surveys, coordinates the collection of quality control and assurance data as well as survey data and prepares required reports. Review data to identify trends and problem areas and propose corrective actions if required. Work to resolve deficiencies in order to meet regulatory guidelines and may prepare a report on findings. Initiates the collection of performance improvement data and evaluates results. EOE
