Job Description

Looking for a Senior Instructional Designer to join our client’s team! This will be a 5 month contract and must be willing to go onsite in Appleton, WI or Vernon Hills, IL at least 1-2 times per month. If interested please apply with most up to date resume and portfolio of work!

Description:

Job Summary: A member of a cross-functional team and is responsible for the analysis, design, and development of training materials as well as curriculum analysis for our client and the Education segment. The courseware and/or curricula may be delivered in any of the following delivery media options: Online (web based), Virtual Classroom, or Instructor Led Training (ILT) – classroom-based and hands-on skills development. Limited travel to support development and validation of course materials may be required. This individual is responsible for developing training materials that:

- Are completed on time and within budget according to project plans and schedules.

- Effectively communicate learning objectives.

- Are instructionally and grammatically sound.

- Integrate effective learning solutions that maximize retention and learner engagement through gamification, scenario-based learning, storytelling, virtual reality, and other industry-accepted methodologies.

- Are developed in accordance with an approved developed style guide.

- Allows them to work and interact directly with vehicle and product makers.

Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Identify and write terminal and enabling learning objectives based on job task analysis feedback

- Conducts technical research using a variety of sources, which include trade journals, industry publications, OEM technical manuals, and interviews with subject matter experts

- Creates instructional design documents and storyboard presentations that provide a proof-of-concept for teaching to the identified learning objectives

- Identifies suitable learning activities/scene treatments and interactions that assist with knowledge retention

- Writes technical content at the desired level for the intended audience (7th grade)

- Reviews completed work for content accuracy, compliance to organizational design/layout standards, and adherence to adult learning methodologies

- Keywords content into a digital asset management (DAM) system with accurate and searchable key words

- Develops quality assessment questions that confirms the learning transfer meets the course objectives

- Adds course content to presentation tool identified for delivery type (Captivate, PowerPoint, MS Word)

- Coordinates with a graphics designer to identify visual assets that support technical concepts, including photos and illustrated drawings for a digital asset list (DAL)

- Creates a video/animation plan for each course, which includes the assets required, video scripts, and organizes the resulting video shoots at the client’s studio and off-site locations

- Creates and proofreads audio scripts for e-learning lessons. Works with audio talent to ensure required edits are included in the final scripts

- Works with internal and external SMEs to develop simulators and props for live instruction

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Skills and Aptitudes:

- Excellent writing skills; (use of language, grammar, spelling, organizing content)

- Proficient use of ADDIE or other curriculum design processes (e.g. SAM)

- Experience developing technical training content

- Applies curriculum design methods to develop training content for multiple delivery platforms

- Performs job task analyses and training needs assessments to ensure that learning objectives are clear, achievable, and result in the desired outcomes for the course

- Maintains awareness of current trends in curriculum design strategies

- Researching technical literature and industry trends

- Multi-tasking, prioritizing, and managing multiple projects to achieve targets

- Active listening and adaptive communication skills

- Interviewing skills designed to obtain information on technical processes, repair procedures, vehicle design, and equipment functionality

- Software including, but not limited to, Adobe Captivate, Cumulus (or another type digital asset management system), MS Office

Experience and Education:

Bachelor’s degree (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science) in Instructional Design and/or Adult Education is required. A minimum of four years of experience as an Instructional Designer developing Online (web based), Virtual Classroom, or Instructor Led Training (ILT) may be considered in lieu of the B.A. degree. Additional work experience in the collision repair or automotive industry is highly desired, but not required.
