Job Description

The City of Naperville’s Electric Utility is currently seeking a Stocker to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the operation of the Department of Public Utilities’ warehousing operation, tool room, and locating sections.  Incumbent is responsible for the receipt and issue of materials, monitoring material levels, and related record keeping

Duties
  • Receives, issues, and tracks material and supplies used by the Electric Utility (to maintain the electric grid) according to warehouse procedure and City/utility accounting standards.  Performs similar tasks for other city departments for material contained in the Electric utility warehouse.  Utilizes inventory control software and related peripherals.
  • Supports the organization of the warehouse and storage yard by prioritizing material, stocking shelves, rotating stock, assembling storage racks, and categorizing material according to its use and value.   Receives and responds to related direction provided by the Warehouse Supervisor and/or the Lead Stocker.
  • Operates a variety of Electric Utility vehicles and equipment including forklifts and small trucks.
  • Assists City and contract employees in the issuance of material with a working knowledge of material on hand and how it is used.
  • Assists with the accountability, security, and record keeping of material inventory contained in the warehouse by ensuring information entry is correct into the inventory software system.
  • Delivers and retrieves materials and supplies to and from NEU construction sites, including off-road situations.
  • Communicates to the warehouse supervisor all material problems including functionality and quantities on hand.
  • Assists with the annual physical inventory, random material counts, and the research of material accounting questions.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of personal protective equipment used in the utility, utilizes PPE per utility standards and procedures, and follows warehouse procedures for the handling of potentially hazardous material.
  • Cleans, maintains, and secures warehouse and storage yard.  Maintains grounds around the warehouse (including snow removal).
  • Maintains and repairs equipment and tools.  Cleans and performs routine checks of vehicles.
  • Performs locates of underground facilities.   Attends training (and attends related refresher training) to be able to consistently, efficiently, and competently perform locates of underground facilities.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • At least twelve (12) months professional experience with general warehouse or industrial parts stocking experience such as that acquired at a hardware company, lumber yard, or industrial parts handler/supplier.
  • At least six (6) months forklift or similar equipment experience.  Six (6) months experience with a computerized inventory system.
  • Computer and keyboard proficiency, plus proven/demonstrated skills in attention-to-detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A strong mathematical aptitude.
  • A valid State of Illinois Class D Driver’s License.

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products and/or inventory/warehousing applications (including the transfer of digital data from bar code scanners).
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of material used in an electric and/or water utility.
  • Current forklift certification.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification.
  • Current CPR certification.
