Description:

Under the direction of the Library Operations Associate, the Senior Library Specialist performs complex functional duties in acquisitions. These duties include ordering of materials, maintaining accurate bibliographic data and processing received orders into Library systems for access by our community of users.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Performs complex ordering and receiving for serials, series titles, standing orders, and monographic materials.
Receives invoices from vendors for all library sites and reviews for accuracy of information.
Makes complex adaptations to bibliographic data available in OCLC and statewide online catalog to create local bibliographic records for all formats of materials (i.e., books, serials, visual, mixed, maps, sound recordings, computer files, and electronic (online) resources).
Updates bibliographic and holdings data for improved access
Classifies all types of materials using appropriate national as well as locally devised classification schemes.
Deletes appropriate records and holdings from databases for missing and withdrawn materials.
Interprets and applies acquisition, cataloging, classification, and processing policies and procedures.
Assists with creation, development and organization of training and procedural documentation as needed.
Compiles staff questions and identifies complex invoice cases to help coordinate group efforts to solve complex invoice-related problems.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:

A. work experience in a library or equivalent setting.

B. college course work in any field as measured by the following conversion table:

30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
3. A total of two (2) years (24 months) work experience in a library or equivalent setting performing progressively more responsible work consistent with the next lower level of this series.
