BASIC FUNCTION:
This position contributes to the success of Brookfield Zoo Chicago and the goals of providing an extraordinary guest experience and financial sustainability by helping to generate revenue through the operation of the Carousel and providing extraordinary guest experience by operating the switchboard, assisting with mailroom operations, assisting with guests' admissions needs and transactions, responding to inquiries, and providing overall support to the Guest Services department.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Provide the highest level of quality customer service while representing Brookfield Zoo Chicago in a professional manner at all times. Provide assistance and directions to guests.
*Operate the Carousel and other seasonal and temporary attractions, in a safe manner following established procedures. Perform and maintain daily operational check.
*Perform duties associated with the Society's switchboard by receiving incoming calls and providing general information to the public. Assist with mailroom procedures in processing incoming deliveries and accurate sorting of mail. Transport mail and packages to and from Brookfield Post Office using a Brookfield Zoo Chicago vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
*As needed, provide assistance in guests' admissions needs providing guests with essential information to assist them in purchasing the best value for their visit, maximizing their experience and generating revenue. Operate a point-of-sale ("POS") cash register system with accuracy and efficiency including basic data entry.
*Provide assistance with Moldarama machine filling and uniform room as needed.
* Accountable for following and enforcing all applicable institutional policies and procedures and departmental protocols.
*Provide a neat, clean appearance of self, workspaces and attraction areas at all times, which includes washing and cleaning the Carousel.
*Provide the access control function at the Carousel and other attractions by ensuring all guests possess a ticket or membership card and are scanned prior to entry.
Other related duties as assigned.
* Essential Job Functions
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Accurate basic math and reading skills required.
Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
Good communications and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate well with the public required.
Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information required.
Cultural competency; experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.
Valid driver's license required. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois license within 90 days of hire. Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.
DESIRABLE/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate or (GED) equivalent preferred.
Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.
Prior customer service experience and/or answering switchboard.
Ability to operate a point-of-sales (POS) system desired.

Because the position provides support for the Carousel, incumbent is subject to random drug testing upon hire under the Illinois Amusement Ride and Attractions Safety Act.
