Position Highlights:
Elmhurst Hospital 155 E. Brush Hill Road, Elmhurst, Il.
Full Time 1.0 FTE
Hours: 9am-5pm Monday-Friday; Includes weekend and holiday rotations
What you will do:
Under close supervision of the supervisor or Medical Technologist, and according to detailed instructions, performs routine procedures in accordance with established departmental procedures and professional standards.
Assists in performance of patient tests, manually and through use of automated clinical laboratory equipment, reagents and /or test methodologies.
Prepares histological and microbiological slides by microtome cutting, swab and concentration techniques. Stains, coverslips slides and distributes specimens as directed. A certified Histotech or a Pathologist oversees these functions.
Assists pathologists at the grossing bench, retrieves patient tissue specimens / prepares slides and exchanges chemicals on the tissue processor. Enters test orders per established procedures. Maintains records and reports of activities i.e., test volumes and or workload statistics.
Performs culture plating techniques on a variety of specimens as outlined in the microbiology procedure manual. Assesses culture media for growth characteristics and identifies positive cultures for further workup by Medical Technologist. Reports Negative cultures per department protocol.
What you will need:
Minimum one year of previous clinical lab experience in specimen processing, preferred
High School Diploma or higher degree
Ability to understand instructions and make judgments
A strong orientation to detail to ensure proper labeling of patient specimens, verification of patient information and correct input of data and the ability to perceive similarities and differences in color
