Following the Illinois State Statute, the Board of Fire and Police Commission hires certified candidates ahead of non-certified candidates.

Starting salary (dependent on qualifications):
$80,472 - $97,860 based on a 40-hour work week.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in any field is preferable.
A waiver to the educational requirement (Bachelor's Degree) shall be considered under any of the following circumstances:

Is a certified Police Officer with three (3) or more years of full-time law enforcement experience,

Has three (3) or more years of full-time military experience with an honorable discharge, or

Has completed an associate degree in law enforcement and justice administration from Harper College.
Any candidate granted a waiver must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
Successful completion of police examination and physical requirements.
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age when they file their application.
Applicants shall be under 35 years of age, at the time of application and when the final eligibility list is posted, unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissioner's Act.
Must be a United States Citizen.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Ability to obtain a valid POWER Card (entry-level candidates only).

Selection Process:
The candidate hiring process consists of the completion of an online application with the Village of Schaumburg, passing the FrontLine National Exam (if not certified), polygraph, interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, background investigation, medical evaluation, and job, education, and military-related verifications.
