JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Nurse Coordinator, the Clinical Nurse I is a professional care worker who is responsible and accountable for providing safe, effective individualized nursing care for patients, and supportive care to significant others. Nursing care involves application of the nursing process and utilizing technical skills for patient care delivery. These activities require nursing judgment based on application of scientific principles of nursing, problem solving, and teaching/learning.

Typical Duties
* Identifies, plans, and cares for the total needs of patients taking into consideration the age specific needs of patients served in assigned area of responsibility.
* Assists in radiologic procedures, including monitoring of patients before, during and after procedures.
* Notifies appropriate physician and nursing staff of any changes in patient's condition.
* Performs initial and ongoing assessment/data collection that includes consideration of biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational and discharge planning factors in a systematic manner.
* Formulates an individualized plan of care based on patient's assessed needs, desired outcome and consideration of age related requirements.
* Implements care in knowledgeable, skillful and safe manner based on established patient and nursing practice standards.
* Evaluates effectiveness of care and revise interventions as appropriate. Documents all nursing assessments, treatments, medications, tolerance to procedures, changes in condition, intervention and patient outcomes.
* Makes appropriate and timely decisions in a crisis or emergency situation.
* Floats within the Radiology department to provide nursing care, as needed.
* Performs and/or directs cardio-pulmonary resuscitation activities. Safely operates equipment necessary for providing patient care in assigned clinical area.
* Assists with necessary patient preparation as guided by Radiology policies and procedures.
* Works and communicates effectively with a variety of individuals. Functions as a member of the health care team.
* Provides general direction, guidance and coordination of patient care given by other levels of nursing staff.
* Applies knowledge of standard operating policies and procedures. Applies principles of BSIS Infection Control and Safety.
* Demonstrates awareness of patient/family rights and ethical/legal issues.
* Actively participates in staff orientation and staff development activities for the unit.
* Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional practice, growth and development.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
* Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois
* One (1) year of critical care nursing experience in an acute care setting or 6 months of interventional radiology nursing experience
* Must possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
* Must possess an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
* Must meet the Physical and Environmental Demands to work as a Radiology Nurse, including wearing a lead apron weighing approximately 15lbs., pushing and pulling greater than 20lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a college or university
* Certification in clinical area desirable.
* One (1) year experience in Trauma/ /ER nursing experience
* Must possess a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
