Description:

The University of Illinois Chicago is seeking to fill an Assistant Director of Transportation position. With minimal supervision, the Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Transportation to develop and implement a comprehensive and synchronized transportation system for the campus. Oversight of these functions is a significant factor in planning for the safety and security of campus visitors, students, faculty, and staff. This position is second in command and has independent decision-making authority on operations and programmatic changes. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the university's transportation operations and serves as a primary liaison with colleges and various administrative units on campus in the collective effort to enhance the university's transportation system.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop and manage a comprehensive and integrated transportation strategy for the campus to enhance the institution's transportation system for various stakeholders. Serve as subject matter expert on the university's institutional reporting system on vehicle usage standards and strategic planning and replacement of a fleet of 270 vehicles. Evaluate and assess emergencies requiring immediate resolution. Establishes and implements procedures for safeguarding transportation equipment.
Provides leadership and manages staff to ensure the coordination and efficiency of the department's 24-hour operation; hires supervises and evaluates staff. Directs and conducts safety, quality, and training programs to ensure the appropriate use of resources and equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines while maintaining excellent relationships with stakeholders.
Exercises discretion and independent judgment to manage department relationships for services. Participate in labor-management meetings and union negotiations as needed; collaborate with OVCAS Human Resources and Campus Employee Relations to implement discipline and discharge proceedings.
Manage budget development and strategic project planning according to administrative and University goals; monitor budget by reviewing specifications and determining priorities for effective cost management; prepare reports and cost analyses for purchase, repair, and replacement of equipment and supplies.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
