Job Description

Position Performance Area/Expectations :

Scheduler Activities

+ Receives order via workqueue once insurance is verified.

+ Fills out surgery data sheet.

+ Calls patient to pick surgery date. Facility determined by insurance.

+ Patients are to be called within 3 days of being seen.

+ Goes over instructions with the patient.

+ Enter information into scheduling book/Epic

+ Enters surgery order detail within EMR Open Case.

+ Take postop therapy order to PT and get PT to sign off they have received.

+ Order and confirm all equipment needed for case and any surgical assistants.

+ Mail patient written instruction sheets

+ Put all information together and make into packet and file until after surgery.

+ Fill out and fax to PCP/specialist History and Physical Request Form via Rightfax

+ Inform and mail flyer for any total joint or spine case about R.C. pre-op class and MRSA screening.

+ Schedule surgeries and register patient in EHR.

+ Keep track of provider schedules.

Authorization/Benefits Key Responsibilities :

+ Verifies and obtains authorizations as required by insurance companies dependent upon the plan coverage for all patients. Works and manages authorization work queues in Epic.

+ Coordinates with Patient Services Representativeto obtain needed information and provides timely communication to the clinic and treating clinician regarding lapses or denials for authorization.

+ Depending on assignment by Practice Manager, provides authorizations for physician, diagnostic, therapy and/or surgical services. Authorizations may include all insurances including workers compensation coordination and management.

+ Researches benefits and referral requirements for unique situations and procedures at the provider’s request

+ Verifying patient eligibility prior to appointments as necessary

+ Verifies benefits for specific patients, services, or procedures that are not verified during the pre-registration process
