Job Summary
The Assistant Director, Classroom and Facilities Technology will provide technical management of college classrooms, conference rooms, digital signage, and other facility-supporting technologies. This position may serve other colleges or units through the collaborative efforts of Information Technology Partners.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operations
    • Collaborate with the Director of Classroom and Conference Technology to oversee the deployment, maintenance, and integration of classroom and facilities technology ensuring it supports instructional needs, enhancing learning experiences, and meets additional communication and presentation needs of the college
    • Manage the upgrade and maintenance operations for technology in all college learning and conference spaces
    • Provide escalated troubleshooting and technical support for all college classrooms, conference rooms, and other shared spaces
    • Implement and support best practice standards in cooperation with IT Partners @ Gies infrastructure and support services
  • Planning and Project Management
    • Collaborate with the Director, Classroom and Conference Technology to plan regular upgrades for all classroom and facilities technology
    • Manage projects related to classroom and facilities technology, following IT Partners established project management process and best practices
  • Staff Coordination, Training, and Mentorship
    • Coordinate the workload of the AV support professionals on the college Help Desk team
    • Collaborate with college Help Desk AV professionals to develop training for college faculty and staff
    • Provide mentorship and training for the AV support professionals on the college Help Desk team
    • Manage student workers who provide after-hours classroom support
  • Teamwork, Campus Collaboration, and Leadership
    • Align work with shared team values of IT Partners @ Gies
    • Collaborate with AV professionals in other university units to develop shared processes, models, and best practices
    • Represent college on campus initiative, committees, and working groups focused on AV or facilities technology innovation
Physical Demands
  • Lifting/Carrying : Occasionally, up to 40 lbs. (carts available for transportation of equipment)
    Climbing: Occasionally, ability to climb ladders

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. High school graduation or equivalent.
    2. Any one or combination totaling two years (24 months) from the categories below:
    A. College course work in media production, multimedia, communications technology, instructional media systems or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    60 semester hours equals one year (12 months)
    90 semester hours equals two years (24 months)
    B. training in media production, multimedia, communications technology, instructional media systems or a closely related field such as a vocational, technical, or an armed forces program.
    C. work experience in media production and/or operations, multimedia systems engineering and/or operations, instructional media systems and/or operations or a closely related field.
    3. Four years (48 months) of work experience in media production and/or operations, multimedia systems engineering and/or operations, instructional media systems and/or operations or a closely related field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Technology or computer-science related degrees
    Experience in AV programming and integration
    Proficiency in customization of classroom AV management systems
    Crestron, Q-SYS, Extron, or similar A/V control system certification, Level 1 or higher
    Experience with AV over IP endpoints
    Experience with Microsoft Windows-based PCs, Apple laptops and mobile devices, and Ethernet and wireless networks
    Experience with working as part of collaborative and diverse teams in support of common objectives
    Experience working in higher education

    Appointment Information

    This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 1342 - Assistant Chief Instructional Media Systems Engineer position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search close date. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The salary range for this position starts at $90,000. Professional development and other advancement opportunities are also available. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
