Role Summary
Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) is a trillion-dollar plus investment management firm entrusted by investors around the globe to help them navigate changing market environments, so they can confidently realize their long-term objectives.

The Director of Strategy will be responsible for leading strategic planning, key initiatives, and potential strategic partnerships and M&A opportunities . He or she will identify and evaluate threats and opportunities to our long-term growth plan, developing business cases and strategic options. Using industry insights, competitor developments, internal capabilities, and financial models, he or she will develop analytical models and executive presentations to influence our long-term growth plans and priorities.

Partnering with business lines and functions, he or she will lead business line strategic and tactical planning, identifying cross-functional strategic initiatives, and supporting the development and alignment of functional strategies.

The Director of Strategy will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Asset Management, helping drive deep dive special projects in areas most relevant to the Asset Management Leadership team's strategic agenda.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with the leadership to set key business strategic priorities and provide thought partnership to Senior Executives and business partners on a range of critical topics.
  • Drive and enable the transformation agenda of the business. Oversee key research projects, evaluating market developments and potential competitor moves across all aspects of business (from operations to commercial execution), implications to industry and business, and recommended responses. Support development of data and digital projects across the business unit globally.
  • Continuously maintain perspective on competitors' market position, strengths, and weaknesses, and how NTAM may be impacted by market trends and competitors' strategy and actions.
  • Segment markets and customers as to enable a granular understanding of key markets and tactical actions on the part of the business in response to market data.
  • Oversee industry research to identify opportunities within existing lines of business, in new geographic markets, or in new product verticals, including market and competitive analyses, fit with organization, financial implications, and entry strategy
  • Work collaboratively with business unit heads to articulate detailed strategic plans with specific plans, deliverables and measurable outcomes for each business line.
  • Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Product, Finance, Operations, Legal, and other business and support functions to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of initiatives, supporting cross-functional business partners at all levels with analytic insights and problem solving.
