About the role

The rptA (Refining & Products Trading Americas) is seeking two Commercial Advisors: a rptA Commercial Advisor and a rptA Commercial Interface Advisor.

The role of the rptA Commercial Advisor is to support the VP of refining products & trading Americas (rptA) within Trading & Shipping. The Commercial Advisor will support the VP of RPTA in leading the safe and compliant execution of bp’s trading operations for the region, developing and implementing entrepreneurial trading strategies to ensure secure, competitive supply and demand for key collaborators, delivering new market opportunities and proving leadership to support a strong culture of compliance and a trading environment that achieves commercial results. The Commercial Advisor will work the trading benches and Marketing & Origination in the region to support cross commodity growth and will be responsible for leading and delivering gross margin as well as delivering growth opportunities.

The Commercial Interface Advisor will support the Senior Commercial Interface Manager in day to day interface operations and lead strategic priorities to enable the team to grow business and deliver PnL growth. The role includes managing multiple internal interfaces and relationships, ownership of certain projects and providing a growth platform for future broader T&S leadership roles.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities:

+ Provide leadership and support to promote growth to deliver collaborative commercial opportunity within bp

+ Support the VP, Senior Commercial Interface Manager, and regional CCMs in delivering cross commodity or specific bench projects to enable commercial activity

+ Facilitate opportunities to deliver simplification and modernization to help drive maximum value for bp

+ Act as link across the front office and support functions to lead/chair meetings as needed, including driving continuous improvement efforts across businesses

+ Represent the VP and/or Senior Commercial Interface Manager in formal periodic meetings as needed

+ Work with the various businesses and commodities in understanding key trading strategies and associated risk deployed.

+ Contribute/grow strategic relationships and commercial opportunities across RPT, T&S and other bp businesses particularly at the interfaces (Customers & Products, Production & Operations and Gas & Low Carbon Energy)

+ Model and set the tone for the region around compliance, safety and BP’s values and behaviors

Commercial Interface Advisor

+ Provide strategic input to the development and execution of RPTA’s interface priorities as well as identify efficiencies and opportunities to reduce commercial, operational, and functional complexity of the portfolio across bp businesses (C&P, P&O, G&LCE)

rptA Commercial Advisor

+ Provide strategic input to the development and execution of RPTA’s priorities as well as identify efficiencies and opportunities to reduce commercial, operational, and functional complexity of the regional portfolio.

+ Provide leadership and guidance for RPTA in embedding a DE&I culture for the region and support the people agenda/interaction to hire and retain the best talent for the region

Essential Experience and Job Requirements

+ Bachelor’s degree

+ Good understanding of the trading, refining, or retail businesses

+ Commercially minded

+ Problem solving skills/logical thinking and decision-making abilities

+ Ability to work under pressure, and demonstrate quick thinking

+ Self-starter and desire to take responsibility

+ Ability to build relationships and balance conflicting viewpoints

+ Strong communication and presentation skills

+ Ability to handle multiple priorities and strict deadlines

+ Ability to work in multicultural environment and adapt to different styles of communication;

+ Ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment, ability to prioritize and switch between the tasks & priorities in a dynamic business environment

+ Ability to pull large teams together and align on forward path/plan

+ Ability to navigate difficult conversations

Development Note:

This position represents an exciting opportunity for a candidate with proven functional expertise to gain exposure to many BP businesses including T&S front office teams and develop an understanding of the trading business and commercial interfaces.

These positions are designed to be development roles to provide an accelerated path towards first level management roles within BP. The role enables a deep understanding of the inner workings of a complex commercial interface, and as such positions the candidate for future roles in leadership, or individual contribution across RPT, T&S, and other bp businesses (C&P, P&O, G&LCE).
