Job Summary
Under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, the Division Chairman for Child and Adolescent Services will coordinate clinical services and directly manage all staff within his/her assigned service area(s). This Divisional Chairman will oversee divisional psychiatric clinicians, administrators, and service contracts within Cook County Health (CCH). In addition to administrative duties, this psychiatrist will provide psychiatric assessment and management of patients with co-morbid medical disease and mental illness. Provides initial psychiatric consultations and subsequent treatment within assigned areas of the CCH.
General Administrative Responsibilities
Collective Bargaining
Review applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and consult with Labor Relations to generate management proposals
Participate in collective bargaining negotiations, caucus discussions and working meetings
Discipline
Document, recommend and effectuate discipline at all levels
Work closely with labor relations and/or labor counsel to effectuate and enforce applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements
Initiate, authorize and complete disciplinary action pursuant to CCH system rules, policies, procedures and provision of applicable collective bargaining agreements
Supervision
Direct and effectuate CCH management policies and practices
Access and proficiently navigate CCH records system to obtain and review information necessary to execute provisions of applicable collective bargaining agreements
Management
Contribute to the management of CCH staff and CCH' systemic development and success
Discuss and develop CCH system policy and procedure
Consistently use independent judgment to identify operational staffing issues and needs and perform the following functions as necessary; hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, direct or discipline employees pursuant to applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements

Work with Labor Relations to discern past practice when necessary
Typical Duties
Directly supervise all clinical services within his/her service area(s) including the supervision of psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologist(s), and psychiatric nurse clinicians.
Coordinates patient care schedules in Cerner with provider schedules to ensure minimal wait time and superior quality within his/her service areas.
Arranges clinical coverage schedules in conjunction with sick, vacation and educational time off requests from reporting staff member.
Provides direct feedback to staff and hospital administration regarding functioning of child and adolescent psychiatric clinical services.
Performs semiannual reviews of each reporting staff person with the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry as part of the Ongoing Provider Performance Evaluation (OPPE). Any written or verbal reprimands or disciplinary actions will be done with the Chairman of the Department's knowledge and in accordance with the Health System's Human Resources Department and respective labor board.
Agrees to the terms of the Health System's standards for Division Chairmen and outside dual employment.
Provides general psychiatric assessment to referred patients in the Child and Adolescent Outpatient Clinics. Provide ongoing medication management to these patients.
Provides direct patient care to medically ill patients in the Stroger Emergency Department, Stroger Inpatient Pediatric Wards, and CAPC and AYAC Clinics to ensure safety, evaluate need for further hospitalization, and provide appropriate pharmacotherapy.
Provides education to patients, students, medical residents and clinic staff regarding mental health screening and treatment within a medical practice.
Documents all encounters with patients in medical record and communicates diagnoses and treatment recommendations to appropriate medical staff.
