Overview
The School of Music is a vibrant facet of the NIU campus that prides itself on strong support of first-generation undergraduate students, providing readily available resources for faculty-directed study and research opportunities. The distinguished faculty are Fulbright Scholars, Grammy Award Winners, Chamber Music America and MacArthur Foundation Grants recipients, residents at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, guest conductors at Avery Fisher Hall, and commercial recording artists who perform regularly at significant international and national venues. NIU faculty in voice and opera regularly work with professional opera companies, vocal ensembles, and as soloists with professional orchestras. NIU Choral Ensembles have appeared on multiple national, regional, and state conventions. The university is located approximately 65 miles from downtown Chicago and is a short drive from the vibrant western suburbs.

Position Summary
Northern Illinois University (NIU) School of Music seeks a full-time Instructor to teach undergraduate and graduate voice, direct the Opera Theatre Workshop and the annual Opera production and engage in recruitment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and graduate voice, direct the Opera Theatre Workshop and the annual Opera production and engage in recruitment.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Master's degree in music with professional experience, outstanding performance and teaching skills, and evidence of creative collaboration with diverse colleagues and students. Applicants should be able to demonstrate and document a commitment to collegiate student success, particularly for first-generation and traditionally under-represented groups.
Additional Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Terminal degree or equivalent professional achievement, experience teaching voice incorporating current trends and best practices in a wide range of vocal styles (e.g., classical style, bel canto, musical theater, jazz, popular and/or world music, gospel), experience directing opera and/or musical theatre productions, and evidence of successfully recruiting music majors.
