Position Highlights:
Position: Histology Technician
Location: Northwest Community Hospital
Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
Hours: Monday-Friday, 3am-11:30am.

What you will need:
License: N/A
Education: Associates degree in a healthcare field from an accredited college.
Certification: Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists registered Histology Technician HT (ASCP), or Histology technologist, HTL (ASCP), or equivalent required.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of histology lab experience, including processing and IHC experience.
Skills: Essential Functions:

Using Microtome; cuts, trims, and processes embedded sections of hard and soft tissue of any size and condition for histological evaluation.

Processes/embeds bones, biopsy, cores, tissue, and other diagnostic material as needed.

Performs routine and special stains, immunochemistry stains, and immunofluorescence stains and prepares solutions, performs dilutions and work up/prepare antibodies for immunochemistry stains.

Performs quality control and equipment maintenance. Maintains instruments by use of preventive maintenance procedures (i.e. water bath, microtome, tissue processor, automated coverslip, etc.).

Exhibits organizational skills and a conscientiousness which allows for precise and accurate results in a timely manner. Practices time management and can prioritize work. Maintains specimen blocks and slides.

Maintains good quality relations between staff, patients, physicians and other departments to promote a good working environment and uses appropriate interpersonal and customer service skills.

Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures, OSHA, CAP, and JC standards.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: (Describe any specialized technical, professional or organizational skills required.)
The interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with physicians and hospital staff in a professional and courteous manner.

The skills required of a technician of cutting wrinkle free sections, preservation of tissue, performing special stains, QC controls and document results, load and run automated staining equipment.

The ability to adhere to precise procedures and standards with a high degree of accuracy in observing, recording, and transmitting data and handling laboratory specimens.

The ability to use a computer for data entry or retrieval of data.

The ability to maintain customer service focus under pressure with varying patient and workload volumes.

The ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment or with a team within stated guidelines, and maintaining confidentiality.

The aptitude for professional growth by and desire to attend continuing education classes, seminars.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Describe any sustained physical or mental efforts required of the job.)

Moderate physical effort. Requires continuous standing or walking or sitting. May require frequent lifting or moving of average weight material (typically 20 pounds), or occasionally lifting or moving of heavy weight material.

Repetitive motion use with hands and arms while operating microtome.

The flow of work and character of duties involves concentrated mental and visual attention much or all of the time, along with manual coordination.
