Position Details:
As a Senior Manager of Business Platform Engineering, your role is to guide a team of over 20 SAP Basis and Database Engineers, collaborating with teams across Grainger Technology Group like Security, Storage, Virtualization, SAP Functional, Cloud, and eCommerce, to deliver resilient, automated technology solutions which enable consistently excellent service to Grainger's customers.
You will support all areas of Grainger's business including Sales, Contact Centers, Branches, Distribution Centers & Digital channels.
You will champion and influence the design and transformation of foundational infrastructure applications to a more effective Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and resiliency.
You will be a critical voice in driving the roadmap to modernize, streamline, standardize and strengthen performance, reliability, robustness and scalability across SAP and Database Services.
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Business Platform Engineering, you will be based in Lake Forest, IL.
You Will:
Provide strategic direction to Engineering leaders and Engineers in support of Grainger's business objectives using measurable key results to track progress.
Collaborate with peers to develop and execute upon a modernization roadmap for Grainger's business application suite (SAP).
Navigate complex application and infrastructure dependencies to sequence and deploy business-critical upgrades and required lifecycle events.
Improve Infrastructure Engineering functions for critical business applications to ensure compliance to security, availability and technology standards.
Enforce & support infrastructure standards and optimize savings through compliant procurement of approved products in collaboration with other Grainger Technology Group leaders in portfolio management, architecture, and procurement
Have a security mindset and partner with security team members to protect Grainger's systems.
Formulate a long-term technology skillset roadmap and capability blueprint in partnership with the Grainger Technology Group Leadership Team that is aligned with the company's strategic goals.
Proactively identify and implement strategies to achieve operational and financialobjectives.
Analyze and re-engineer existing processes to implement new strategies and technologies to improve productivity and uptime
Ensure effective monitoring, timely and high-quality communication and alerting when service disruptions occur. Lead and coordinate large cross-functional recovery efforts for incidents (Code Red/Escalated Condition) to minimize downtime and lost revenue, when appropriate.
Drives efforts to continually improve productivity, service, cost of ownership, the security of information assets, management controls while meeting regulatory requirements
Partner with suppliers & vendors, negotiating and managing contracts, evaluating technology, and authoring Requests for Proposals (RFP)
Conduct performance reviews and have thoughtful individual career development plan conversations with team members.
You Have:
5+ years experience managing application development, and/or database engineering teams
B.S. in Computer Science / MIS or related field
Strong service based experience and delivery
Strong experience with SAP BASIS and Database.
Strong experience automating, operating, and optimizing SAP environments in public\private clouds such as Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud Platform.
Experience managing and integrating with the SAP Business Technology Platform
Experience deploying cloud technologies for both hosted off-the-shelf software and in-house developed applications.
Must be able to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing
