Job Summary 
 The Elmhurst Learning and Success Academy (ELSA) is a four-year, post-secondary certificate program for young adults, ages 18-28, with differing abilities. The aim of ELSA is for students to have a four-year college experience, after which they will be better able to live independently and seek out and hold meaningful employment. Utilizing a student-centered philosophy, the ELSA Student Life Specialist is responsible for the ELSA Housing Program. In close collaboration with Office of Residence Life staff, the Student Life Specialist helps to develop and maintain an enriching and supportive living and learning experience for ELSA students. For interested and qualified candidates, there may also be the possibility of teaching in ELSA concurrently with the duties of this position.
Salary Grade
Essential Functions 
 Hires, trains, and supervises the ELSA Community Advisors (CAs), Head Community Advisors and Life Coaches (LCs).
Holds weekly individual and team meetings with students and supporting staff.
Reviews all documentation from ELSA CAs and Life Coaches and provides direction for further interventions as needed.
Plans and leads all life coach meetings with students and families.
Prepares all room and roommate assignments for all students in ELSA and collaborates with the Office of Residence Life and Disability Services to ensure room placements and accommodation requests.
Teaches various strategies for executive functioning and self-regulation to support personal, social, and academic matters with students.
Coordinates and attends all housing evaluations with ELSA Clinical Psychologist.
Provides updates and support to families regarding housing related matters.
Prepares and supports students during the judicial process including Title IX and student conduct as needed.
Through collaboration with the Office of Residence Life, fosters an environment conducive to academic and personal growth for students in the ELSA Housing Program through effective interpretation and consistent enforcement of all University and Residence Life policies.
Collaborates with the ELSA team for all tasks related to the Higher Learning Commission accreditation process or other accreditation efforts and trainings for other campus departments regarding the ELSA program
Serves in an on-call capacity for the ELSA Housing Program.
Attends New Student Orientation and other campus events to support current or interested students.
Participates in ELSA Program recruitment efforts as needed.
Other Duties and Responsibilities 
 Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications 
 A Master's Degree in Special Education and Educational Leadership.
An understanding and commitment to student learning, student development, and intercultural education.
Experience working with students with disabilities in residential placements, including student involvement, communication, conflict management, and crisis response in a living environment.
Experience with the supervision of staff, including student-level staff.
Preferred Qualifications 
 Understanding of and/or experience in a small college environment.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements 
 Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
