Job Description

Position Objective:  The ReStore Driver/Warehouse Assistant (RDWA) is responsible for donation pick-ups using the ReStore truck, as scheduled by the Procurement Manager.  When not directly involved in donation pick-up, the RDWA works with warehouse staff processing merchandise.  Often, the RDWA is the only contact the donor has with our Habitat affiliate, so he must represent us through courteous interactions with donors and customers in support our mission and support our Habitat ReStore-Peru operations.  

 

General Position Description:  Pickup and unload donations for the ReStore in a timely, efficient and courteous manner.  Work together with the staff and the Store Manager to ensure donations are placed and ready for processing.  Maintain and properly report the condition/maintenance needed for our truck and our equipment.  When not on pick-up duty, the RDWA will diligently work with other warehouse staff to process merchandise for sale and be consistently responsive to sales floor staff to ensure items are properly cleaned and placed for sale.

 

The RDWA reports directly to the ReStore Warehouse Supervisor.

 

Specific Duties:

  • Ensure timely and efficient movement of donations to deliver fast, courteous and quality service.
  • Communicate status of pickups to customers and Procurement Manager to ensure good customer service.
  • Record and maintain donation receipt pick-up slips.
  • Load and unload merchandise efficiently at multiple sites.
  • Secure the value of donations by exercising care when handling and hauling donated merchandise.
  • Wear the proper PPE for tasks.
  • Properly use and store of moving supplies, dollies or carts for the safe transport of donations.
  • Keep the warehouse neat and orderly when unloading.
  • Unload donations efficiently and put them in proper location to minimize rehandle.
  • Secure the value of donations by exercising care when handling and hauling donated merchandise.
  • Work with the Assistant Manager and the Sales Associate to move items to the showroom floor.
  • Assist the sales staff to optimize the sales floor arrangement for good merchandising.
  • Assist customers and donors in loading and unloading merchandise.
  • Assist the Warehouse Supervisor in keeping a clean, safe work area, including the areas outside in back of the store.
  • Maintain regular truck inspections and reporting: check fluids, tires, for vehicle and report records and problems to the Store Manager.
  • Clean/wash truck as needed.
  • Communicate with management, drivers and customers clearly.
  • Maintain health and safety compliance in accordance with company policy.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education, experience, knowledge and skills:

  • Understand Habitat for Humanity mission
  • Must be professional in appearance and a good ambassador of the Habitat brand
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work well and communicate effectively
  • Ability to establish, foster and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and the public
  • Able to arrive at work promptly and dress neatly
  • Able to do heavy lifting up to 100 pounds
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and have no vehicle infractions in the previous 3 years
  • Must demonstrate safety awareness in vehicles and in use of equipment
  • Team player able to help in warehouse and sales floor as needed
  • Criminal background check required.
