Position Summary
This position provides leadership in the coordination of PK-12 early field experience and student teaching placement for UIC undergraduate and graduate teacher candidates on behalf of the Council on Teacher Education (CTE). The academic advisor in the CTE maintains relationships with partners as both educational collaborators and potential early field experience and student placement sites for prospective student teacher candidates, advises and assists students with the completion of early field experience and student teaching requirements, consults with program coordinators, and monitors student progress related to meeting the professional educator licensure requirements for the state of Illinois as well as other states where our alumni pursue employment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Facilitate the routing and execution of placement contracts between the University Board of Trustees and school districts.
Work with schools and/or school districts to arrange formal field-based placements for student teacher candidates to meet state professional educator licensure requirements.
Work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff in multiple departments in three UIC colleges that offer educator licensure programs.
Continuously monitor; track and follow-up on approval status to confirm all internal and external criteria has been met with official documentation on record; and communicate status to candidates and program faculty.
Provide administrative coordination and support for UIC educator licensure via the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) by overseeing arrangements for placements and ensuring documentation is reflected in UIC teacher candidate's record and shared appropriately.
Counsel and advise students on academic and career issues to help develop individual academic and career goals. Process, track, and report on student advising activities and report on success of assigned students in teacher preparation programs.
Develop, promote and implement student initiatives and programs, including outreach to internal and external constituencies with the goal of retaining a targeted population of students.
Collaborate with academic partners, faculty, alumni and other constituents in developing activities that strengthen student education, using best practices from research.
Act as a resource (liaison) to students, internal and external partners by providing information about important opportunities as well as resolve problems related to the placement of student teaching candidates.
Plan student teaching orientation, seminars, workshops, meetings and other events for student teacher candidates, collaborating schools, program coordinators and other partners.
Remain abreast of, understand, and interpret internal and external policies and/or laws/mandates related to pre-service teachers' requirements for placement in clinical experiences and for entitlement to licensure.
