Position Summary
The Center for Cardiovascular Research (CCVR) at the University of Illinois College of Medicine is seeking candidates with a strong scientific background in the field of cardiovascular physiology, pathology, and/or therapeutics to contribute to cutting-edge research aimed at advancing our understanding and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

As a member of our interdisciplinary team, the successful candidate will conduct independent research, collaborate with other faculty members and external partners, secure funding through grant applications, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, and participate in teaching and mentoring activities. Candidates with expertise in areas such as vascular biology, cardiac electrophysiology, imaging modalities, or translational research are particularly encouraged to apply. This position offers a unique opportunity to make significant contributions to cardiovascular science and improve patient outcomes through innovative research endeavors.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Participate in designing experiments to enhance and promote research, particularly focused on developing human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived atrial cardiomyocytes to model arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, in the laboratory of Dr. Dawood Darbar.
2. Test, optimize, and implement both new and existing methods/techniques, including but not limited to basic and cellular electrophysiology, including patch and voltage clamp techniques; Western blotting; PCR; fluorescent immunocytochemistry; Langendorff preparations; light and confocal microscopy; and basic animal physiology.
3. Supervise and train undergraduate and graduate students in specialized tasks.
4. Collaborate with other faculty members, external partners & lab personnel.
5. Secure funding through grant applications
6. Assist on ad hoc projects related to CCVR research grants administration.
7. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
PhD/MD or equivalent degree required with a major in life sciences.

Minimum Experience:
Three years of working experience in a biomedical research setting is required. Prior experience with grant writing, grant management or regulatory protocols is also required.

Certifications / Skills:
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Working knowledge of MS Office
