Job Description

State Farm (Bloomington IL) seeks a Lead Software Engineer for full stack development, designing, building, and delivering best in class change of agent solutions for State Farm and our customers. Specific duties include: work independently, utilizing up-to-date coding, testing, security, DevOps, and software engineering practices to maintain and create new applications that support business requirements and technical specifications (40%); collect and analyze information to identify customer’s technical needs, suggesting solutions and developing implementation and integration plans (e.g. technical proposals) (10%); possess and utilize an understanding of User Experience practices to improve usability and interaction between the customer and product, applying a wide application of complex principles, theories, and concepts in computer science for software engineering solutions (10%); maintain and continue to develop breadth of knowledge in programming (e.g. Java, JavaScript), database functionality (e.g. Postgress, SWL), and other engineering topics, including classes, functions, security, containers, version control, CI/CD, and unit tests (10%); provide consulting, mentoring, and training to other team members with the use of technology, software engineering topics, and product design and development (20%); and learn and utilize Cloud technologies and popular programming languages to complete complex assignments (10%). Option to work in a hybrid environment with required travel to local office at least once a quarter and as needed. Must live within 180 miles of Bloomington, IL office.

 

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, or a closely related field of study, plus 5 years of experience in the job offered, as a Software Engineer, or similar position in Full Stack Web Development. Specific experience must include: designing and building complex full-stack applications using industry standard languages and frameworks including Java, JavaScript, REST services, and Spring framework; using Database and Database tools including Postgres and SQL; working with software engineering topics, including classes, functions, security, containers, version control, CI/CD, and unit tests; working with compute environments, including Public Cloud and containers; designing, architecting and implementing solutions in AWS, using services such as S3, Lambda, EC2, or Route 53; and mentoring and providing technical & scripting training to others. Option to work in a hybrid environment with required travel to local office at least once a quarter and as needed. Must live within 180 miles of Bloomington, IL office.
