The Manager of Professional Development will work with a Manager of Professional Development, Director of Professional Development, and various firm leaders to design and implement innovative programs and approaches to training and developing attorneys in the legal skills specific to each of the practice groups at the Firm. The role will entail regular collaboration with practice and department leadership to implement an engaging and effective legal skills curriculum, ranging from in-person workshops to virtual courses from both internal and external content providers. The Manager of Professional Development will maintain communication channels among attorney audiences regarding training offerings and expectations. #LI-Hybrid 

 


Responsibilities

 

Oversees firmwide legal skills training across all three Law Departments.
Collaborates with Practice Group and Department leadership to develop and implement legal skills curriculum tailored to each practice area and tenure of the attorneys practicing in that area, g. a first-year litigation associates series or a transactions practice Tier II curriculum.
Designs, manages, and implements workshop style legal skills training programs designed to develop skills in motion practice, depositions, negotiations, trial advocacy, expert witnesses, and other areas.
Works with Professional Development leadership team to identify and address gaps in current training curriculum.
Consults with resources on adult learning best practices and develop best practices for delivering internal training programs.
Assist with the implementation of competency models and curriculum guides that establish benchmarks and set clear expectations for associates and senior counsel.
Develops communications designed to increase awareness of the legal skills training programs on offer, how to access them, and how to share ideas for improvement.
Develops methods and tools for tracking and communicating attorneys' progress through the legal skills curriculum.
Develops and use various methods such as surveys, assessments, and pilot groups to elicit feedback on training program needs.
Oversees the team executing on the delivery of legal skills curriculum, including a Professional Development Specialist and Professional Development Coordinator.
Works to ensure that the legal skills programming makes reasonable efforts to adhere to best practices in continuing legal education to help facilitate accreditation when appropriate.
Maintains some proficiency with the Learning Management System used to administer, track, and report on the delivery of legal skill training programs.
Monitors trends in professional development, including with regard to development-related technologies and tools, in order to propose new and innovative solutions that improve the attorney experience.
Develops strong relationships with attorneys and business professionals so as to best leverage the Professional Development teams' expertise, programs and materials.
Researches and identifies best practices, industry trends, new technologies, concepts, and techniques to enhance current training curriculum.
Acts as a point of contact for training and development programs and resources.

 


Qualifications

 

Bachelor's Degree required, JD preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of legal practice in a large law firm and/or experience working in professional development or training required, preferably in a law firm or professional services firm.
