Summary The Patient Effects Clerk position is assigned to the Environmental Management Service (EMS) which is located at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center located in Chicago, Illinois. The purpose of the position is to provide a varied range of supportive and direct care duties that consist of issuing uniforms to employees, maintaining the “lost and found” for employees and patients and other patient effect transactions in support of patient and employees activities. Responsibilities Receives, collects, stores, inventories, bulk patient items as needed. Records, and maintain log for all “lost and found” items according to established procedures. Maintains record of transactions such as uniform issued to employee, uniform sent out of laundry services, supplies received, exchanges, and other patient effect transactions using appropriate form. Maintains a uniform exchange system in the clothing room for the hospital employees to exchange uniforms on a daily basis. Keeps control of employee uniforms sent to the laundry and checks that uniforms are in good condition. Uniforms in need of repair are sent to the laundry. Represents the service and the medical center, internally and externally, in such a manner to reflect positively on the facility, the department, and the mission. Provides “end of the week” transactions report to the supervisor using the appropriate established forms. Initiates new uniform orders and adjust inventory levels according to fluctuating needs. Ensure that uniforms and other clothing received are stored properly in designated storage area. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/22/2024. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: You must have one year of general experience equivalent to at least grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Education: High school graduation or the equivalent is creditable at the GS-3 entry level. Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Clerical Handle Weights and Loads Manages Resources Operation of Equipment/Machinery Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: There is considerable walking to various areas of the medical center such as, ward areas, intensive care units, admission area, etc., for pick-up of bilk items which require pushing or pulling of a clothing cart. Approximately 80% of the time is spent in the clothing room walking, standing, reaching, bending, lifting and climbing to receive, store, or distribute uniforms and other transactions as needed. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
