Job Summary
The Research Scientist will manage the group's day-to-day operations, including limited supervisory duties, colony management, bench studies, and manuscript and grant drafting.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage interdisciplinary research projects to facilitate their impact and completion, including coordinating data and tissue transfers between clinical, imaging, and bench collaborators
- Maintain a small mouse colony, including ensuring timely and accurate completion of mouse genotyping
- Culture primary human and mouse fibroblast cells
- Write publications and grants
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned
Environmental Demands: able to work with research animals, may have to do limited time-sensitive mouse colony maintenance on weekends
Minimum Qualifications
Education Required: M.S. in biology or genetics or a related field of study. Alternate degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience, depending upon the nature and depth of the experience related to this position. Experience Required: Research experience in biology or genetics, including work with biological samples
Preferred Qualifications
Education Preferred: Ph.D. in biology or genetics or related field of study. Alternate degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience, depending upon the nature and depth of the experience as it relates to this position. Postdoctoral experience in biology.
Experience Preferred: Strong publication record, Experience with one of the following:
Animal colony maintenance, DNA extraction and PCR for genotyping and Primary cell culture.
Lab safety training, IRB/CITI/Human Subjects training, biosafety training, animal care and use training
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Required: 1. Possess strong and poised interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with internal and external parties, serving as a technical resource across teams. Ability to supervise others, encouraging the success of team members. 2. Excellent oral and written communication skills for technical and general audiences. 3. The ability to work independently and take initiative when needed.
- Preferred: 1. Demonstrated ability to lead collaborations amongst multiple researchers 2. Ability to lead the writing of scientific papers. 3. Statistics/biostatistics
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/12/2024. The target salary range starts at $55,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
