Job Description

The Salvation Army Belleville Corps is looking for a Custodian. This individual is responsible for the general maintenance and custodial duties of the Corps building and grounds.

This is a temporary part-time, 25 hours per week, $13.00 per hour.

Essential Functions
Perform housekeeping duties including dusting, window washing, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, vacuuming/shampooing/spot cleaning carpets, sweeping/mopping/buffing/stripping/waxing tile floors, etc.
Assist with preventive maintenance of furnaces (changing filters) and perform other minor maintenance.
Change burned out light bulbs in overhead light fixtures, exterior light fixtures, and exit lights.
Maintain Corps grounds to include yard work, trash removal, snow removal, lawn mowing and any additional outside repairs as necessary.
Assist with any small or minor repairs and note any major repair that needs to take place in the buildings.
Maintain proper housekeeping in janitorial room. Assists with up-to-date inventory of cleaning supplies and custodial equipment.
Assist with preparation of rooms for Corps Programs, luncheons, and other meetings.
Move/pickup furniture, equipment, tools, and supplies.
Make pickups and deliveries driving a box truck if necessary.
Ensure vehicles receive proper maintenance and are kept clean. Assist Office Manager with maintaining vehicle record and maintenance files for each vehicle.
Supervise community service workers to ensure productive use of their time in fulfillment of their duty to the community as directed.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe From Harm guidelines.
Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, visitors, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, and clients; respect of others' property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about visitors, clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Education and Experience
Position requires a High School Diploma or GED with one-year related work experience. Combination of training and experience will be considered. Ability to read and comprehend a job description, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet. Basic communication skills to facilitate good communications between visitors and other employees. Requires valid class "E" driver's license and must pass The Salvation Army MVR check.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
Capable of frequently lifting 30 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds. Occasionally moves 100 pounds or more using dolly/cart/truck. Majority of lifting is from floor to waist height. Some lifting required above waist and shoulder high, but it will be at a reduced weight. Position will have to bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items to accomplish this job. Occasionally climb a ladder to work (replace light bulbs, etc.). Some of this work will be outdoors and it will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
