Job Summary 
 Elmhurst University invites applications for the position of Math & Science Support Coordinator in the Learning Center. The Learning Center's mission is to empower students by providing holistic academic support in an inclusive environment to develop the skills, strategies, and behaviors needed to be successful students and lifelong learners. As such, the Learning Center offers high-impact programming and practices, including peer tutoring and academic workshops, to increase student persistence, retention, and success.

 

The Math & Science Support Coordinator is a 12-month staff position responsible for developing, delivering, and assessing a full range of academic support services for students and preprofessional development opportunities for peer tutors. The coordinator provides administrative supervision and assessment of programmatic initiatives; partners and collaborates with schools, departments, faculty, and staff; and works with students one-on-one to ensure academic success and persistence. The successful candidate will have a background in math or the sciences and act as the Learning Center's departmental liaison to the math and science departments, among others, to support the institutional mission, vision, and values.
Salary Grade
Essential Functions 
 Trains and mentors peer tutors by contributing to and delivering student preprofessional development opportunities, including in-person workshops and online modules, that meet College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) criteria for certification.
Hires, supervises, evaluates, and provides ongoing mentoring for math and science tutors.
Monitors and implements embedded tutoring by gathering and analyzing data; developing and facilitating comprehensive training sessions and educational materials for embedded tutors; observing, mentoring, and evaluating embedded tutors; and collaborating with faculty and campus partners to ensure effectiveness.
Assists in designing and leading Learning Center initiatives, including academic workshops, academic coaching, graduate school preparation, and special events such as the Long Night Against Procrastination, by developing materials, coordinating meetings, ensuring execution, and collecting and analyzing feedback.
Works with Learning Center staff, faculty, and campus partners to develop, implement, track, and assess student interventions with a focus on math and science courses.
Provides academic coaching and support of individual students by working directly with students identified through the early alert system or other means as being at risk for leaving the university by connecting them with appropriate academic resources, including Learning Center staff and tutors, providing one-on-one support as needed.
Collects and tracks data to provide insights into student-level use and needs as well as the need for new Learning Center interventions and institutional partnerships.
Works with Learning Center staff to create and update marketing materials and strategies, including digital content for Learning Center webpages.
Other Duties and Responsibilities 
 Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications 
 A bachelor's degree in a STEM field with a strong liberal arts component
Experience working in a learning center, math center, or academic support center and/or knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices to support learning
Highly skilled at balancing multiple competing tasks and responding to emerging priorities
Outstanding written and oral communication skills to interface with a wide range of students, faculty, parents, and donors within the university community and beyond
Demonstrated commitment to and sophisticated understanding of issues affecting the academic achievement and retention of students from diverse backgrounds.
Dedication to ongoing professional development and service to the University
Preferred Qualifications 
 A master's degree in a relevant content area
Expertise in a content area related to math or science
Ability to tutor statistics
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
