Job Description

30% Under direction, serves as the Day Shift Command Center Operations Administrator for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT): 

  • Serves as a technical specialist coordinating a complex, multiple system computer operation.
  • Directs lower-level staff involved in operating the enterprise computing systems to ensure systems, operating platforms, subsystems, application, networks, and peripheral hardware are operating properly using various systems and software tools and commands. 
  • Performs mainframe operational tasks such as startups, shutdowns, system dumps (tasks, system, spool, etc.) and sysplex coupling facility structure.
  • Moves, restores and monitors system performance and measurements.
  • Performs online maintenance, makes system changes by following system checklists, and performs assigned system updates and Initial Program Load (IPLS).
  • Completes reports regarding success or failure of job/systems and provides results to the appropriate duty manager identified on the provided call lists.
  • Performs tasks as directed in the data processing guide. 
  • Coordinates and implements changes to the enterprise computer systems to ensure appropriate availability and control of resources in accordance with established procedures, production schedules, and DoIT Change Management policies.

20% Serves as coordinator to lower-level staff involved in monitoring various systems and contacting on-call staff to resolve any unresolved issues, such as server failures:

  • Maintains secure key logs and keys. 
  • Researches, resolves, and/or circumvents interruptions to processing components and network connectivity through following standard operational processes, procedures, and diagnosis. 
  • Coordinates contact with and scheduling of non-operational support resources such as use vendors and other technical staff. 
  • Documents incidents, actions, and issues with accuracy and completeness. 

15% Serves as designated lead worker:

  • Assigns and reviews work.
  • Provides guidance and training to assigned staff.
  • Advises immediate supervisor regarding performance of staff. 
     

10% Monitors mainframe and server environment to ensure appropriate availability and resource status:

  • Places service calls for hardware problems and records all aspects of the call on the daily shift report.

10% Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology field:

  • Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques and procedures.
  • Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations

5% Monitors various sub-systems utilizing a multi-processor configuration of a large mainframe and enters commands to initiate job runs.
5% Answers questions from the public:

  • Assists callers with appropriate procedures for calls, including escalation and helpdesk routing.
  • Answers general questions and forwards more agency specific issues to state agency helpdesks.

5% Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
