Description:

Position Summary Staff Nurse I is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Staff Nurse I functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

Demonstrates in-depth clinical knowledge, skills and expertise
Provides direct patient care
Performs ongoing assessment of assigned patients' and their significant others' learning needs and identifies changes in patients' condition
Assimilates information from multiple sources and implements appropriate action plan to provide safe, quality care
Assures safety and security of patients, significant others and staff
Ensures the appropriate implementation of the patient's plans of care and facilitates communication among multidisciplinary team members regarding patient status
Implements appropriate actions to respond to needs of patients and patients' significant others
Monitors and documents the patient's condition during and post Endoscopy procedures
Assures cost effective approach to patient care in terms of equipment, supplies and other resources
In all areas of practice follows established policies, procedures and standards of care
Participates in quality improvement activities and identifies quality issues
Recognizes and responds to age appropriate needs and behaviors of all patients and utilizes knowledge in planning and interventions
Assists in various procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, and other diagnostic tests as directed by physician
Advocates for patients and their significant others, coworkers, community and the nursing profession.
Consistently demonstrates professional accountability.
Holds others professionally accountable.
Promotes collaborative practice with coworkers, other disciplines and departments.
Consistently demonstrates courteous service to internal and external customers.
Is an active representative of the nursing profession in internal and external forums.
Integrates theoretical knowledge base and clinical expertise in decision making.
Assumes responsibility for own clinical/professional competence and continuing education.
Assumes responsibility for meeting personal mandatory requirements: current Illinois license as a Registered Professional Nurse, CPR Certification, TB compliance, mandatory educational in-services, and other programs,
Participates in Continuous quality improvement data collection.
