Responsibilities

 

The Executive Director, Development provides leadership to the major gift and midlevel gift teams, and carries a portfolio of donors, prospects and potential prospects rated to have the capacity to give major gifts (cash, pledge or deferred) in excess of $100,000. The Executive Director creates and manages personal relationships with donors, potential donors, and fundraising process partners, primarily through face-to-face encounters. This position closes or plays a role in closing major gifts as a member of development teams that include beneficiary executives, other development officers and fundraising process partners. The Executive Director will pair leading best practices in the field with creative solutions to direct and align all aspects of fundraising activity of the development directors responsible for major and midlevel giving. The ED assists in establishing the strategic direction of the development department overall. They also support the Chief Development Officer by working with and supporting executive leadership, board members and volunteers in appropriate development activities.
Plan and execute fundraising and stewardship strategies that focus upon donors and prospects with giving history or giving capacity of $100,000 and above.
Directly oversee the development directors responsible for major and midlevel gifts and provide leadership to the Integrated Development Teams.
As a supervisor, this position is responsible for:
Facilitating the selection, placement, and development of possible full-time employees, part-time, on-call employees, and team managers.
Conducting one-one-one performance communication sessions with direct reports to measure progress on goals, development plans, and provide feedback on progress on a regular basis, including formal annual performance communication and consult with other leaders as they lead teams.
Maintaining current job descriptions for all supervised positions.
Maintains awareness and compliance with Hazelden Betty Ford policies and procedures
Holding staff accountable to organizational philosophy and strategies, policies and procedures.

 


Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of experience in frontline fundraising
Minimum 5 years managing a team of frontline fundraisers
Solid verbal and written communication skills.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Proven track record of identifying and closing new significant gifts and evidence of exceptional cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation skills with six and seven figure donors.
Experience with grateful patient philanthropy
Superior relationship-building interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Health care fundraising experience
Knowledge of substance use disorder
