The Opportunity

This position works out of our Des Plaines, IL location (in office) in the Abbott Molecular Diagnostics, Quality Assurance Group.

The Supplier Quality Engineering Manager provides leadership and guidance for the quality engineering department supporting new product development. Responsible for developing goals, objectives, procedures, policies and systems that are in line with company goals and objectives, mission and vision and FDA/ISO regulations. Supports the development and implementation of new processes and designs. Daily responsibilities include managing the technical support for new product development activities to ensure processes and designs are developed in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures defined within the Design Controls system.

+ Monitors compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. compliance with FDA, BSI, EEO regulations, etc.).

+ Makes decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules in order to achieve department objectives.

+ Develops, monitors and appropriately adjusts the annual budget for department(s).

+ Develops, communicates, and builds consensus for operating goals that are in alignment with the division.

+ Provides leadership to assigned staff and supervisors by communicating and providing guidance towards achieving department objectives.

+ Creates immediate to mid-range plans to carry out objectives established by top management; forecasts future departmental needs including human and material resources; recommends or modifies the structure of organizational units or a centralized functional activity subject to senior management approval.

+ Assignments are expressed in the form of objectives; makes decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules in order to achieve the program objectives established by senior management; consequences of erroneous decisions or recommendations would normally include critical delays and modifications to projects or operations with substantial expenditure of time, human resources, and funds, and may jeopardize future business activity.

Required Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s Degree or Related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

+ Minimum 7 years Related work experience within an FDA/ISO certified environment.

+ Provides direction and monitors progress of exempt specialists and/or supervisory staff toward departmental goals.

+ Monitors costs of projects of human and material resources within a department or unit.

+ Will perform this job in a quality system environment.

+ Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations.

+ Develops and/or identifies new work processes and the improved utilization of human and material resources within the assigned or related functions or groups.

+ Facilitates others’ participation in the continuous improvement program.

+ Investigates and solves problems that impact work processes and personnel within or across units or departments; develops and communicates a vision for the organizational unit assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Master’s Degree

+ Strong leadership skills to motivate and enable department employees in meeting objectives.

+ Experience in departmental budgeting and supervision/training/managing staff.

+ Experience with computers and software application knowledge consistent with engineering environments.

+ Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred.

+ Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

+ Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.

+ Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.

+ Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
