Job Description

The Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites you to apply for a postdoctoral position beginning fall 2024 at Argonne’s Trace Radioisotope Analysis Center (TRACER). TRACER specializes in detection and analysis of rare noble gas isotopes through Atom Trap Trace Analysis (ATTA), an efficient and selective atom counting method based on laser cooling and trapping. This position will focus on further advancing the ATTA technique.

The Physics Division has an active and broad-ranging program at the intersection of nuclear and atomic physics including a strong focus on fundamental nuclear physics research with rare isotopes using various techniques such a nuclear decay and reaction studies, precision measurements in atom and ion traps, and high-resolution laser spectroscopy. Position Requirements

+ Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or atomic physics.

+ Experience in topics such as laser cooling and trapping of neutral atoms, laser spectroscopy, non-linear optics, and ultra-high vacuum instrumentation is preferred.

+ U.S. citizenship is required for this position.

The position is initially for one (1) year, with the possibility of extension for up to three (3) years, depending on funding and performance. Interested applicants should be prepared to arrange for three letters of reference to be provided during the application process.
