As an airline, safety is our most important principle. And our Corporate Safety team is responsible for making sure safety is top of mind in every action we take. From conducting flight safety investigations and educating pilots on potential safety threats to implementing medical programs and helping prevent employee injuries, our team is instrumental in running a safe and successful airline for our customers and employees.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensures the successful administration of United’s Aviation Safety Action Programs. This includes report processing, conducting investigations as needed, supporting the facilitation of Event Review Committee meetings, and advocating corrective actions that prevent reoccurrence of events. Additionally, the applicant will have high-level MS Office / database query skills necessary to facilitate data presentations at safety meetings.

+ Facilitates the program specific portion for the annual ERC review of the safety reporting database to ensure effectiveness of ERC corrective actions. Supports the collection, investigation, and response to submitted reports identifying non-compliance and non-conformance discrepancies related to United’s operations, and assures all pertinent information is available to the ERC to take appropriate corrective action

+ Handles the application, correction, and maintenance of proper taxonomy set for hazards, threats, and errors (as applicable) in the designated safety reporting system

+ Maintains liaison with company divisional and local management, unions, and government organizations (FAA, as appropriate) regarding inclusion of reports into United’s Safety Systems’ databases

Event Review Committee

+ Event Review Committee (ERC) meetings: planning, scheduling, facilitation, and support

+ Coordinates follow-up investigations, ERC risk analysis, and trending of safety data in support of the ERC

+ Develops, drafts, issues, reviews, tracks and opening and closure of Hazard Identification forms as required by United’s Safety Management System (SMS)

+ Provides the SMS organization with Safety Assurance data and trend analyses to identify hazards in safety reporting data

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

+ Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant work experience in technical, safety, or aviation-related field

+ 3-5 years of related experience; Commercial pilot certificate may account for 2 years of work experience

+ Advanced MS 365 skills

+ Excellent written/oral communication skills

+ Intermediate database application skills

+ Safety Management Systems

+ Aviation Safety Action Programs

+ Regulations governing air carrier operations

+ Aviation security

+ Creation of executive level presentations, data analysis

+ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

+ Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

+ Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

+ Formal coursework or degree in aviation or occupational safety

+ FAA certification (pilot, dispatcher, maintenance, etc

+ Previous experience with voluntary safety reporting systems (ASAP, VDRP)

+ Understanding of Aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS) and voluntary safety reporting systems (ASAP)

+ Presentation Skills (PowerPoint)

+ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Macros, VBA, Pivot Tables, advanced charting)

+ Data visualization and dashboards (Power BI, Spotfire, Foundry)

+ Familiarity with WBAT, ETQ or other ASAP reporting software platforms

+ Occupational health and safety

+ Fatigue Risk Management Programs

+ Quality Control Programs
