Coordinator for Advising and Student Success

POSITION SUMMARY:

Contribute to the mission of the Office of Academic Programs by providing exceptional academic advising and other student services for the undergraduate students in the College of ACES. Additionally, play an integral role in the development of initiatives that foster student retention and success and contribute to students achieving their educational goals.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic Advising

• Provide advising to a high volume of undergraduate students In the College of ACES, and serve as the primary academic advisor for students in the ACES Undeclared and Parkland Pathway to Illinois programs, which includes monitoring academic performance, interpreting and explaining academic requirements and policies, providing information on major declaration criteria, and transfer application processes.

• Advise and assist students with academic, probationary, and personal concerns on possible courses of action and direct students to appropriate campus resources when applicable.

• Provide walk-in and by appointment advising for students on a variety of college-level issues, such as degree requirements, policies and procedures, academic standing, and resources.

• Maintain quality working relationships with ACES and campus units and make competent referrals.

• Assist in the coordination of the new student registration program for incoming freshmen and transfer students in ACES. Includes administrative responsibilities in communications and data, as well as advising of new ACES Undeclared Students.

• Respond to queries from students, faculty, staff, and parents/families as appropriate, within the parameters of FERPA.

• Deliver advising appointments across multiple platforms; in-person, group, virtually.

• Review incoming first year & pathway admission applications in collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Asst. Dean of Academic Affairs.

• Assist in Academic Standing Review at the end of each term for academic progress.

• Foster student retention and appropriately track data. Maintain records of student contacts.

Student Success & Engagement Programming

• Oversee implementation of ACES Student Success Workshops; develop measurable goals to evaluate impact on student success.

• Facilitate section(s) of ACES 123, the College's credit-bearing orientation course.

• Coordinate with departments across the College of ACES in the first-year experience course to ensure campus and college benchmarks are met for incoming student success.

• Organize and run New Student Welcome as part of the orientation weeks for new undergraduate students to campus.

• Support the ACES Convocation ceremonies in the fall and spring terms in partnership with the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs. As well as assist in planning the Senior Send-off in conjunction with ACES Advancement.

• Assist with college-wide student events as needed.

Communication

• Coordinate student workers on Office of Academic Programs social media and communication platforms with upcoming academic dates, deadlines and events.

• Perform other related duties that further the mission of the college.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of professional experience in student advising, counseling, student affairs, program planning, or a related field.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, education, counseling, or related field


SALARY AND APPOINTMENT DETAILS:

This is a full-time (100 FTE%) Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The previously determined salary range for this position was $55,000 to $65,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary while taking into consideration internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as budget constraints.
