About the Team

The AP Curriculum and Assessment Team at College Board (65+ staff) collaborates with colleagues across all aspects of the AP Program to develop, manage, and deliver AP's 40+ courses in a wide variety of subject areas. APĀ® is a rigorous academic program built on the commitment, passion, and hard work of students and educators from secondary schools and higher education. AP provides willing and academically prepared high school students with the opportunity to study and learn at the college level. AP's Course Leads and Assessment Leads ensure that course curricula are aligned to higher education expectations and reflect the state of the art in the discipline, contribute to instructional resources and tools for teachers, and develop assessments that allow students in these courses to demonstrate their mastery of course content and skills.

About the Opportunity

As the Senior Director, AP Curriculum and Assessment, you are responsible for reviewing, providing feedback and training on curriculum and assessment materials across AP's 40+ subjects. You support AP C&A Leadership (VP, Department Heads, Assessment ED) by:

  • Reviewing assessment materials and leading assessment review processes

  • Curating professional learning materials and trainings for the team of 50+ Course Leads and Assessment Leads

  • Guiding the development and review of cross-subject curriculum and assessment assets

  • Managing the inaugural AP Assessment Fellows program

AP Assessment Review (25%)

  • Complete form reviews across AP Exams ensuring adherence to FAS, alignment to Curriculum Framework, political sensitivity, and all other documented review requirements

  • Under direction of ED, Assessment, facilitate fairness and diff review processes across multiple AP subjects by documenting requirements, training staff, and completing reviews

  • Increase efficiency of item and form review process by documenting assessment domains (certain skills, content areas, stimulus types, or question types) that require more intensive requirements documentation and review, as well as assessment domains that do not require the same level of intensity

  • In collaboration with Department Heads, ED, Assessment, and VP, C&A, refine documentation and requirements for item and form reviews

C&A Team Professional Learning (25%)

  • Manage annual calendar of professional learning for the AP C&A team based on the annual AP cycle and other project work, including training and learning to occur in the annual in-person full-team meeting, twice-annual in-person department meetings, monthly virtual full team meetings, and the quarterly C&A leadership meetings

  • Build library of trainings and ensure that all Course and Assessment leads are trained "just in time" for each annual cycle activity

  • Build library of onboarding training for new staff

  • Develop templates and exemplar artifacts to ensure consistency of approach and sharing of relevant knowledge across C&A team for all new content development

  • Coordinate across the team to identify areas of professional learning opportunities.

  • Using inputs from ED, Assessment, build cross-team training assets for all Course Leads and Assessment Leads to support insourced assessment work

  • Support ED, Assessment in organizing, documenting, and delivering professional learning for Course Leads and Assessment Leads, including the Assessment Community of Practice

  • In collaboration with department heads and VP, C&A, support monthly C&A team professional learning virtual meetings (establishing topics based on needs, collaborating with DHs on planning activities/assets/presentations for each meeting, etc.)

Cross-Subject AP Curriculum and Assessment Assets (25%)

  • Lead cross-subject presentation development and training for Exam results sessions at AP Annual Conference and other outreach opportunities, including refining templates, supporting data-driven presentations of exam results with appropriate visualization and data representation, and ensuring consistency in approach across subjects

  • Support development and annual review of Chief Reader reports, by refining templates that Reading leaders use for annual reports, training Course and Assessment Leads for their review, ensuring consistency in approach and effectiveness of material presented in Chief Reader reports

  • Lead cross-subject training and provide reviews for commentaries on student samples used in AP teacher professional learning including those posted on AP Central and used in professional learning workshops and APSIs

  • Ensure consistency of approach (editorial, level of detail, consistency within rubric type/format) for all scoring materials, inclusive of guidelines and rubrics

  • In collaboration with Department Heads and VP, C&A, provide first-line review as part of the annual internal review of all scoring materials assets prior to pre-Reading

  • Support other cross-subject projects as delegated by VP, Curriculum and Assessment

AP Assessment Fellows (25%)

  • Manage the AP Assessment Fellows program, including hiring, onboarding, and day-to-day management of the program and work

  • Liaison with Talent in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding stage

  • Shepherd the AP Assessment Fellows through the multi-month program overview and orientation, ensuring the cohort makes connections with AP and other CB Program leaders and teams and each other

  • Partner with AP Assessment Managers who will manage and direct the assessment development and activities for each Assessment Fellow (different AP Assessment Manager per Fellow) to ensure each fellow is receiving training and practice in all aspects of the AP Assessment operational cycle and phase of work

  • In collaboration with AP Assessment Manager, develop a consistent feedback loop to ensure each fellow is receiving robust feedback on work and has the opportunity to learn and improve

About You

You have:

  • A minimum of 7+ years of full-time professional work experience in curriculum, learning, and/or assessment

  • A Master's degree is required

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, as well as effective presentational and instructional skills

  • A strong organizational mindset, excellent prioritization skills, and a predisposition towards action and production of results

  • An ability to produce schedules, dashboards, and visualizations in programs such as Smartsheet or Power BI

  • A customer-centric, empathetic, service-oriented, and organization-first mindset

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel 4 to 5 times a year, including 1 to 2 weeks in early June (domestic)

  • You are eligible to work in the US for any employer

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to interact with staff at all levels and give and receive feedback

  • Ability to travel up to approximately 15%

Benefits and Compensation

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $108,000 to $165,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.
