Job Title: Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technologist
Job Description: The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility of patients for a designated time frame and to provide care, specifically in the Heart & Vascular Institute. The patient population consists of those requiring an invasive cardiology or invasive radiology study. The Registered Radiologic Technologist will assist the physician in all procedures and provide a valuable service to the patient and the team.
Essential and Department Specific Job Functions:
- Essential Functions:
- Administers contrast material (when applicable), according to physician's request, by means of existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and placing IV line; recognizes and responds to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions.
- All functions and duties will be under the direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist.
- Assists with inventory/supplies.
- Checks for correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position.
- Compiles pertinent clinical information pertaining to lab, pathology, etc.
- Assists in instruction of new staff as necessary.
- Documents accurately and completely.
- Explains procedure to patient and provides for patient care- including comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality.
- Accurately informs procedural nurse of correct doses of intra-procedural medications, radiation and sponge/sharp counts.
- Performs on call duties and/or work variable shifts as assigned to meet department needs.
- Performs all essential functions of the Radiologic Technologist.
- Department Specific Job Functions
- Able to work around and maintain a sterile field during procedures.
- Administers and with holds contrast and treatment as appropriate. -Assess patients for allergies.
- Can pull supplies for procedures.
- Takes late shift duties as assigned to meet department needs.
- Skin suturing.
- Basic knowledge of ECG interpretation.
- Electrophysiology equipment troubleshooting.
- Understanding and running the pacing stimulator during ablations and EP studies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous Radiologic Technology experience in a procedural setting
- AHA BLS
- AHA ACLS
- IEMA Radiography License
- ARRT(R)
- Associate's Degree in Related Field OR certificate in Radiologic Technology
- Experience with Peripheral vascular work, Venous Central Lines, Tube Changes, Neuro (would be ideal), Embolization work (Arterial/Venous), and Venous Thombectomy work
- Capacity to learn and retain information regarding patient care and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively, follow directions, and complete detailed work accurately
- Demonstrates compassion and caring in dealing with others
- Manual dexterity to handle small supplies
