PRI is seeking to hire a Human Resources Business Partner to join the PRI HR team.

Job Summary
Serving within a group of HR professionals, provide expertise and facilitate operations for the Prairie Research Institute's (PRI's) human resources administration including providing specialized guidance to both internal and external audiences regarding recruitment and hiring, compensation, international employment, employee relations and HR policy.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Recruiting/Hiring
    -Manage searches for academic and civil service positions, following all unit, campus, University, state and federal policies and procedures. Includes the development of job descriptions, ad placement, guiding the search committee process, assisting with interview questions, and the completion of search documentation.
    -Monitor and investigate hiring trends that will guide determination of open searches, compensation and best advertising practices.
    -Collaborate with managers to coordinate staffing needs, advising best practices on hiring processes, writing position profiles and general recruiting initiatives.
  • Policy Interpretation/Guidance
    -Provide senior-level knowledge and guidance to managers, scientists and directors with workforce planning, succession planning, compensation and pay and other service deliverables for all employee groups including, academic, civil service, graduate students and hourly employees.
    -Interpret Campus/University procedures and serve as a resource to departmental staff.
    -Assist with development and implementation of the annual merit program.
    -With some direction, work with managers to resolve general employee relations issues, escalating issues to Associate Director when necessary.
  • Visa's/Compliance
    -As co-lead, advise, direct and manage the policies and processing of visas and green cards, FMLA and other federal and University compliance initiatives.
    -Collaborate with the HR group to design and implement onboarding programs and staff training and development initiatives.
  • Other
    -Perform other duties as needed in order to further the mission and goals of PRI.
    -Keep abreast of developments in this discipline.
Additional Physical Demands
The work of this position takes place in an office setting. The work is sedentary and involves sitting for extended periods of time working at a computer, using a keyboard and mouse, and using repetitive hand motions for data entry.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
Eight years of professional-level human resources experience which could include (1) recruiting and candidate placement and (2) visa processing and (3) on and off campus, multi-site workforce locations.

Preferred Qualifications

Alternative degree fields may be considered if accompanied by equivalent experience, depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current PRI projects and technologies. Experience collaborating with senior staff members conveying best practices and policies with an emphasis on building relationships and engaging stakeholders. Proven experience with implementation of orientation and onboarding programs. Experience with public speaking. Strong professional writing skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Intimate knowledge of Human Resources federal and state policies. Strong professional writing skills. Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a diverse and fast-paced work environment consisting of multiple and changing priorities with stringent deadlines, under minimal supervision. Attention to detail, sound judgment, and strong conflict resolution skills. Proficiency in commonly-employed software and databases.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/1/2024. Salary is commensurate with experience with starting salary at $65,000.
