Program Officer, Emerging Leaders Program

at The Chicago Council on Global Affairs in Chicago, Illinois, United States

Job Description

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs is where your world and the world meet. The Council is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that empowers more people to help shape our global future. Through content and engagement experiences that offer diverse, fact-based perspectives and in-depth analysis, we foster dialogue on the world’s most critical issues. We are committed to building an inclusive community of globally conscious people who want to actively participate in global affairs and gain the knowledge that can help them make a tangible impact – big or small – in the world.

The Role
The primary responsibility of the Emerging Leaders Program Officer is to support the Emerging Leaders (EL) Program, next generation engagement and recruitment for the EL Program, and EL alumni engagement. The Emerging Leaders Program is the Council’s leadership development and global affairs training program for high-potential, midcareer professionals from the corporate, academic, non-profit, and government sectors to foster the next generation of civic and professional leaders who will shape Chicago as a global city. This role also supports next generation engagement that advances recruitment toward the Emerging Leaders Program, as well as EL alumni engagement. Under the guidance of the Director, the Emerging Leaders Program Officer contributes ideas for, executes on, and evaluates substantive global affairs content and meaningful engagement opportunities that advance current, past, and future ELs’ understanding of global challenges and better situate them to pursue solutions.

The Emerging Leaders Program Officer is a hybrid role and requires in-person attendance at our Downtown Chicago location based on in-person sessions and events. Travel to Washington, DC required to support the annual cohort trip.

Responsibilities

Serve as administrator for the Emerging Leaders and related programs, including scheduling, logistics, events execution, communications, record maintenance, assisting with application and selection processes, and providing administrative support to ensure program success.

Assist the Director in developing, organizing, and hosting content-rich curricular activities for the EL Program: the kickoff retreat, twice-monthly sessions, Washington, DC study trip, and closing retreat, among other opportunities.

Support the EL recruitment strategy by organizing information sessions and quarterly events, creating marketing materials, managing application processes, preparing senior staff, and administering the EL Selection Committee, including organizing meetings and drafting materials.

Engage the EL community by managing social media, alumni profiles, and monthly e-newsletters. In partnership with the Director and other Council colleagues, organize and execute alumni events, dinners, and receptions.

Own data tracking for EL Program, recruitment, and alumni engagement: regularly update tracking systems, collect and analyze data, generate reports based on program evaluation metrics, propose programmatic revisions, and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies across all programs.

Assist with special projects and perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent experience working on multi-faceted educational events and programs

Preferably 2-4 years of relevant professional experience, with experience in community engagement and program management and evaluation

Demonstrated interest in international affairs, current events, culture, and politics
