About The Position

This is a unique opportunity to join a high growth, dynamic company with a similarly dynamic and growing legal department. More specifically, you will report directly to SPG’s Chief Legal Officer supporting SPG and its 25+ diverse divisions and SPG’s aggressive growth strategy, including (1) direct daily interaction with SPG’s business leaders, (2) identifying business and legal risks/issues and proposing practical solutions, (3) negotiating, drafting and reviewing various legal documents (including a wide range of commercial agreements, employment agreements and others), (4) participating in SPG’s industry leading M&A process, (5) counseling SPG and its business leaders in errors and omissions (“E&O”) and other litigation and dispute related matters, (6) opportunity to have direct input in designing legal processes and procedures and utilization of technology within SPG Legal Department and (7) high degree of autonomy and independence in performance of your responsibilities.

Requirements:

+ Bachelors and Law Degrees.

+ 3-5+ years of progressive experience as an attorney at a law firm and/or in-house setting.

+ Working knowledge of typical contractual terms (as they may relate to papering transactions).

+ Ability to think critically, commercially, strategically and practically.

+ Experience working independently and as part of large, cross-functional teams.

+ Comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and to complete assigned projects by prescribed deadlines.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

+ Willingness to adopt a flexible time schedule and work style to meet the needs of a fast growing organization.

+ Availability to travel periodically as needed.

+ Admitted and active in at least one state bar.

+ Preference for position to be based in Chicago, Illinois (home of SPG’s and HUB’s corporate office), with plenty of work-from-home flexibility.

+ Experience in the insurance industry and with standard managing general agent agreements (such as wholesale and resale carrier agreements, program management/administration agreements, agent/broker agreements, etc.) is a bonus, but not required.
