Sr. Field Data Engineer

As a Sr. Field Data Engineer, you will manage and optimize the performance of our fleet through high-level telemetry data analysis, process automation, and the development of Sunrun’s monitoring platform. In this role, you will independently lead initiatives, build core features, drive complex projects, and interface with technical, operational, and product leadership. You will deliver critical path code, make core technical decisions, and improve efficiency across multiple organizations.

You will serve as a subject matter expert for fleet data from our vendors, controlling the end-to-end quality from ingestion to automation output. As an owner of Sunrun’s monitoring product, you will continuously enhance and improve the accuracy of the outputs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Leverage our proprietary first-party dataset to build enriched metadata and modeled features of our systems that serve as inputs to our optimization models and provide our company a higher fidelity view on the performance of our systems.

+ Design, implement, and maintain enterprise automation that streamlines O&M

+ Develops complex algorithms and statistical predictive models and determines analytical approaches and modeling techniques to evaluate scenarios and potential future outcome

+ Integrate third-party software tech stacks to pull in critical performance data including: photovoltaics (PV) production, consumption, battery data, weather data, and weather models.

+ Build and Manage large and complex analytical projects from data exploration, model building, performance evaluation, and testing. .

+ Partner with the Applications Engineering, Project Finance, and Product teams to analyze fleet performance, build instrumentation that enables us to optimize our fleet performance across multiple products and construct novel models from first, second and third-party data that enable us to better predict customer value at the time of acquisition.

+ Working across departmental stakeholders, own the production and evolution of key performance KPIs like CPO, ROAS, CAC, conversion and churn.

+ Performs analyses of structured and unstructured data to solve multiple and complex business problems

+ Create and serve high-level performance history to be surfaced in the MySunrun App

+ Develop and instrument a framework for analyzing and optimizing the success of our partnerships with reporting and targeting capabilities.

+ Collaborates with business partners to develop technical /business approaches and new or enhanced technical tools.

+ Working in conjunction with our partners in marketing, finance and product – be a good partner in the experimentation process from hypothesis design and supporting data, to audience selection through execution and analysis.

+ REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER SKILLS)

+ 2+ years of experience in data science or software development AND a Ph.D. in applied math, statistics, computer science, or a related scientific field are required.

+ OR 3+ years of professional experience in data science or software development AND a Masters Degree in Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related scientific field.

+ OR 5+ years of professional experience in data science or software development for the renewables and/or energy market landscape.

+ Experience synthesizing results, forming recommendations, and delivering to relevant internal stakeholders.

+ Excellent Python coding and SQL skills as they relate to Data Science.

+ Good knowledge of interaction with various data sources (Relational databases, NoSQL, Structured and Unstructured Text Data.)

+ Experience working with data warehouses or repositories of organizational data, and making the data available and usable for analysis.

+ Experience constructing and deploying scalable machine learning and decision systems with an end-consumer focus.

+ A good command of statistics — random variables, statistical tests, confidence intervals, etc.

+ Ability to independently design analyses, support conclusions with data and communicate results clearly.

+ Experience with cleaning messy data sets, dealing with missing fields, and identifying outliers

+ Practical experience mining high dimensional transaction data, synthesizing and visualizing the data at varying levels – from expert stakeholders to investors.

+ Expertise in experimental design – from inception and mining to support hypothesis generation through test design, execution, and analysis.

+ Mastery in extracting insights from data to drive results. Ability to get qualitative and quantitative insights that you can synthesize into business recommendations.

+ Results-oriented and metrics-driven. Exceptional ROI-tracking skills, able to prove what is -or isn’t-working

+ Expertise in dealing with third-party vendors and retrieving data from external sources.

+ Reading your audience and adapting – you’ll deliver your analyses to technical experts and non-technical leadership.

+ Storytelling – being able to supplement the what with the why.

+ Curiosity and a desire to solve hard problems in an imperfect world.

+ Thriving at the intersection of technical and business problems.

+ Self-starter with the ability to succeed in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment

+ Ability to travel 10-15% of the year

Starting salary/wage for this opportunity:

$129,511.46 to $172,681.95

Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility, which is based on company and individual performance, short and long term incentives, and program-specific awards. Sunrun provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
