Overview
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Coach Women's Track & Field/Cross Country. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. Under the general supervision of the Head Coach/Director of Women's Track & Field, this position will assist head coach in coaching student-athletes, implementation and instruction of game strategy, recruiting prospective student-athletes, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, program organization, managing travel, managing student-athlete scholarships and overseeing the discipline, conduct and image of the sport program and student-athletes of a major university sport program in conjunction with other departmental responsibilities as assigned.

Position Summary
Assist head coach in the management and administration of all phases of Track & Field/Cross Country programs, athletes and staff.

This is a professional coaching position, and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules and regulations of affiliated national, regional and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the Mid-American conference (or subsequent member conference) and the university.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching - 40%
Responsible for the ongoing teaching and instruction of student-athletes in the performance of their sport such as, but not limited to, competitions, practices, individual and team workouts, and conditioning sessions.
Assists the Head Coach/Director of Track and Field and Head Coach Cross Country with instructing athletes in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.


Team Related Activities - 15%
Assist head coach(es) in the preparing for and conducting of all team-related activities including skill instruction, sport strategy and competitive opportunities.
Coach and instruct student-athletes individually and in groups and demonstrate event techniques and skills required to be successful at Track and Field and Cross Country.
Plan and attend coaching and practice sessions, competitions, tournaments, etc. in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations for specified events.
Develop, recommend and teach competition/event strategy.

Academic Support - 15%
Provide an overall positive educational environment for our Student-Athletes conducive to learning, athletic development, social growth, and preparing them for life beyond college.
Supervise, in conjunction with the athletic tutoring and advising program, the total academic progress of the team implementing corrective action plans through appropriate staff.

Administration - 10%
