Fermentation & Biotechnology Lab Technician at a glance...
The Technician is responsible for supporting day to day execution of Fermentation & Biotechnology activities, supporting technical projects, and managing laboratory resources. They will support fermentation benchtop and pilot plant trials, assist with project initiatives and analytical testing, microbiological media preparation, create work orders and POs, and assess equipment and utility malfunctions. The Technician will also be responsible for managing our internal culture library.

Partners with Fermentation & Biotechnology team scientists, other Central Research team personnel, and maintenance team on critical work needs.
Support fermentation projects from ideation to completion through hands-on work with microbiological techniques and lab equipment.
Independently lead setup and teardown of benchtop bioreactors, with high attention to detail, organization, and cleanliness.
Organize and manage lab and equipment inventory.
Manage culture library, database, and maintain culture freezers.
Assist with benchtop and pilot plant production runs, sanitation, and swabbing requirements.
Complete training as well as lead training for others as needed.
Develop knowledge of microbiological and fermentation equipment and demonstrate understanding of operation, sterilization, and safety protocols.
Cultivate leadership to all employees on strict adherence to safety and GMP procedures.
Ability to complete computer work and use specific systems, ability to learn complex fermentation control software, and troubleshoot equipment issues.
Ability to read, understand and follow batch sheets to assist scientists in experiments.
Ability to operate, maintain, sanitize, and swab equipment safely.
Ability to safely lift over 50lbs on a regular basis.
Ability to accurately weigh ingredients and complete lot sheets for batches.
Ability to inspect equipment and products for cleanliness, foreign material, etc.

2+ years of experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or other hands-on setting.
High school diploma or equivalent, B.S. preferred.
Ability to operate and maintain equipment safely and independently.
Knowledge of microbiological laboratory techniques a plus.
Knowledge of GMPs and Safety procedures and protocols.
Ability to balance multiple priorities and accommodate requests or change in schedule.
Working knowledge of microbiological, food safety, and quality standards.
Strong communication required, both verbal and written.
Self-motivated and strong interpersonal skills.
Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel proficiency required.
