1. General job duties. Types of procedures required.

PACU is a 23 bed post-surgical unit located adjacent to our main OR suite. Responsible for delegation, supervision and provision of nursing care for post-operative patients. Nursing Skills developed on the unit include – Central lines, TPN, pacemaker care, drain care, chest tubes, temporary pacemakers, IVs, PCAs, dressing changes, NGs, medication management and other post-surgical care.

2. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)

Electronic Health Record – Cerner System, Surginet and use of bedside bar code administration

Defibrillators, telemetry, external pacemakers, bed scales, stand up scales, infusion pumps, afterial lines, IV equipment, suction equipment, central lines, capnography and CPAP/bipap.

3. Required skills and minimum years of experience.

Require 1 year of PACU nursing experience in a level one trauma center

4. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)

Current IL license required as well as BLS, ACLS and PALS are required, CPAN preferred

5. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)

All shifts (day, evening, night)

Weekend rotation is expected. On call requirements are applicable.

Employee will always work with a team or nurses, patient care technicians, and a unit secretary during the day, and will work with a team of 1-2 nurses at night

6. Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)

As needed.

7. Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.

23 PACU bays

8. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)

2:1, less as patients acuity increases, more as patients meet anesthesia discharge criteria and/or are holding for an IP room.

9. Dress Code:

Hospital provided scrubs

10. Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.

Classroom training for computer charting and quality indicators is provided along with 24hrs of unit specific orientation
