An Associate within our Dispute Claims & Investigations group is expected to have assignments in a variety of industries. Assignments may include litigation/dispute matters for which damages are determined, forensic accounting, and fraud investigations. Most projects will typically result in the creation of a financial damages models and exhibits. This particular role will likely involve significant work within our Intellectual Property (IP) group, including but not limited to work calculating economic damages for patent infringement, trademark infringement, copyright infringement, and trade secret misappropriation as well as performing valuations of IP assets. The Associate may also assist senior Stout professionals with articles and other research projects.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performance of financial analyses
  • Preparation of schedules and graphical exhibits summarizing results of analyses
  • Performance of quality control procedures for client deliverables
  • Performance of industry, company, or technical research
  • Review, organization, and analysis of project documents and information
  • Analysis of financial statements and supporting financial and operational schedules and data
  • Development and review of economic damage models in various contexts
  • Preparation of written reports and exhibits
  • Attendance at client meetings and on conference calls
  • Assistance with business development activities, such as proposals and professional articles



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in using analytic tools (Microsoft Excel required; SQL, Tableau, Python, or other data software preferred)
  • Ability to critically analyze financial information and accounting records
  • Understanding of financial and accounting information used in business operations and M&A transactions required, basic sense of general frameworks and methodologies for the calculation of economic damages preferred
  • Ability to focus on details
  • A strong work ethic, innovative thinking and a positive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to develop and critique alternative arguments/opinions
  • Ability to conduct thorough research

Education and/or Training:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics;
  • Two to four years of audit, financial compliance, economic or financial consulting, or other related professional services experience expected
  • Completion, progress toward, or desire to achieve CPA, CFA, or other relevant professional designation preferred
