Have you worked alongside corporate clients to identify climate-related risks (physical and transition) and assess the business/financial impacts of those risks/opportunities, including through the use of scenario analysis? The Director, Climate Risk (internal title: Senior Associate) plays a crucial role in enhancing and broadening the services offered by Montrose to its clients through our Sustainability and Climate Advisory (SCA) team. As companies are increasingly pressured to proactively understand and address climate risks, opportunities, and impacts, this role will collaborate with the VP of Sustainability and Climate Advisory and the entire SCA team to develop, market, and deliver climate risk services and solutions to our clients.

This position will involve a mix of business development, service development, project management, and staff development. You will have direct interactions with clients and will work with a dedicated team of environmental sustainability professionals. The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in sustainability and climate consulting for industrial clients such as those in the oil and gas, chemical, power, and manufacturing sectors. The ability to sell climate risk services and expand a service line is essential.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

The Director, Climate Risk (internal title: Senior Associate) is role will work closely with the VP, of Sustainability and Climate Advisory in leading the climate risk services of the Sustainability and Climate Advisory team. This role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:

• Actively developing new climate-risk-related business through existing client relationships, internal and external networking, and thought leadership.

• Supporting development of our climate risk services and solutions, as Montrose continually expands and matures its services offerings around climate impact and climate risk.

• Designing and leading projects to support clients with identifying, assessing, managing, and quantifying the financial impact of climate-related risks and opportunities, aligned with the International Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation's S2 Climate-related Disclosures standard, incorporating the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations.

• Managing project teams to ensure successful and profitable delivery of client projects, as well as supporting other Project Managers as needed.

• Leading proposal development, including establishing scopes, schedules, and budgets.

• Providing coaching and training to team members and others to support service delivery.

• Working closely with team members focused on climate impact (e.g., greenhouse gas inventories, science-based target setting, decarbonization planning) and broader sustainability advisory to identify synergies and jointly develop client opportunities.

• Identifying and attending key events for sponsorship, speaking opportunities, and brand exposure.

• Working with Marketing to establish focused campaigns in order to develop new leads.

• Collaborating with other Montrose Lines of Business (LOBs) to identify cross-selling opportunities for well-rounded revenue streams.

• Keeping up to date and knowledgeable on climate and broader sustainability trends, frameworks, standards, and regulations.

• Exercising safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including participation in required safety training programs.

YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty responsibly and satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Sustainability, Climate Science, or other Environmental Science/Environmental studies discipline.

• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in climate impact and climate risk consulting, with demonstrated business development/sales, service development, team management, and project management/execution responsibilities. Preference is given to candidates who have worked directly with oil & gas, manufacturing, and chemical sector clients.

(Note: consulting experience is a must for this role; in-house experience only will not be sufficient.)

• Demonstrated experience with most or all of the following technical areas:

• Interpreting and implementing the requirements of relevant climate-related regulations and frameworks, including TCFD, IFRS S2, CDP, ESRS E1, and others

• Establishing processes for identifying, assessing, and managing climate-related risks, integrated into broader risk management processes, and successfully selling and delivering these services to clients

• Identifying and determining the impact of climate-related risks and opportunities on a company's business, strategy, and finances.

• Conducting scenario analysis and modeling resilience across multiple climate scenarios

• Establishing oversight and other governance around climate, both at the board and senior management level

• Conducting Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions inventories in accordance with the GHG Protocol

• Additionally, preference is given to candidates who also have demonstrated experience with one or more of the following technical areas:

• Materiality/double materiality assessments (including stakeholder engagement and peer benchmarking)

• Goal and target setting for material issues, including science-based target setting for GHG emissions

• Supporting decarbonization planning (e.g., climate transition plans, net zero plans, etc.)

• Effective and efficient project management skills, including experience developing project proposals/budgets.

• Ability to work effectively independently as well as in teams (in particular, in a remote working environment).

• Natural leader: enthusiastic and motivated self-starter, with willingness to pitch in for the benefit of the team and the company.

• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work with agility across those responsibilities.

• Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.

• Excellent writing and presentation skills; effective communicator, comfortable engaging with client at all levels of the business.
