The Machine Controls Validation Manager (internally known as an Engineering Manager) position is a critical role within our Earthmoving – Product Development and Aftermarket Organization. This role will be responsible for owning on-machine controls validation for multiple Caterpillar product lines. The team is involved with validating Caterpillar’s latest technologies in application at the Peoria Proving Ground in Washington IL. Deliverables will include controls validation plans, budgets, and resources for New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and Maintenance programs. The position will drive common implementation of the quality practices across the team and will directly manage engineers and technologists planning and executing validation on software and electrical hardware. Collaboration with multiple stakeholders and process partners will be required to communicate validation status and process improvement activities. Outstanding technical, coordination, and communication skills are a must for this position. What You Will Do:

+ Provide leadership to create and maintain common processes to ensure quality.

+ Manage and provide technical leadership to a team of engineers and technologists.

+ Manage an annual budget for machine controls validation for each product group supported.

+ Lead or sponsor facility related initiatives in safety, process improvement, etc.

+ Own the facility field wireless network for supporting remote control and autonomy test activities.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

Education requirement:

+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering (preferred degrees in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science curriculum.

Planning: Tactical, Strategic:

+ Expertise in developing multiyear strategic-level validation initiatives.

+ Knowledge of annual budget planning cycle processes.

+ Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives.

Communicating for Impact:

+ Expertise in presenting concise status summaries to technical teams, technical managers, and director/executive level stakeholders.

+ Communicates well downward, upward, and outward.

+ Employs appropriate methods of persuasion when soliciting agreement.

+ Collaborates with process partners in the software development process to identify and close risks and implement process improvements.

Technical Excellence:

+ Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies and practices.

+ Expertise with complex software applications within system of system level products.

+ Knowledge of Caterpillar BIQ (built in quality) or similar practices.

+ Expertise with developing metric reporting dashboards (ex. in Azure DevOps or similar platforms).

Managing People:

+ Expertise in people management skills in a mentorship, project management or direct supervisor or manager.

+ Works collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds; understands their needs and perspectives.

+ The location for this position is the Peoria Proving Ground in Washington, IL
