Job Description

Amergis is hiring for a Clinical Pharmacy Supervisor in Chicago, IL.

The supervisor manages, coordinates, assists in the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy regarding quality assurance, order/prescription processing, inventory, pharmaceutical distribution, pharmaceutical procurement, scheduling, and sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical compounding services.

Typical Duties:

+ Serves as Secretary and member of the Drug and Formulary (D&F) Committee. Prepares and distributes the monthly D&F Committee meeting packets, prepares and distributes the monthly Executive Medical Staff Summary reports, communicates and implements D&F Committee actions.

+ Coordinates the publication and distribution of the Pharmacy Newsletter, Pharmacy Bulletin, Drug Formulary and Drug Formulary Updates

+ Responsible for the development, implementation, assessment, and management of the clinical pharmacy services of the division.

+ Coordinates Scientific Committee approved IND study protocol procedures between investigators and involved pharmacy(ies); oversees the distribution and record keeping of investigational drugs.

+ Supervision of the clinical pharmacy services extended to patients and other professional staffs.

+ Responsible for the operational and budgetary obligations of the Clinical Division of Pharmacy. This includes the overall assessment of the assignment of clinical pharmacists to appropriate patient care unit, clinics, or service areas and the workload which accompanies these assignments.

+ Coordinates the training and continuing education activities of the departmental staff.

+ Oversees the development and implementation of quality improvement activities, drug utilization evaluation, pharmacy “help desk,” and other hospital-wide responsibilities.

+ Assist the Director of Pharmacy in the day-to-day functional workload and service demands on the pharmacy (i.e., attend meetings on behalf of the Director of Pharmacy; provide staffing support and coordination as needed for the ambulatory pharmacies).

+ Responsible for the evaluation of clinical pharmacists’ performance via the Department of Pharmacy pre-defined Standards of Practice.

+ Oversee and assist the clinical pharmacists in the development, implementation, and assessment of the inter-intradepartmental pharmacy educational and training programs.

+ Coordinates the staffing and assignments of the clinical pharmacists scheduled in the ambulatory clinics.

+ Prepare and provide the Director of Pharmacy any management data reports regarding new services, products, equipment, and supplies.

+ Responsible for reviewing/assigning drug evaluation reviews to clinical pharmacists for the purpose of assessing formulary addition requests.

+ Evaluate and approve requests for time off for clinical pharmacists with a focus on the day-to-day functional workload and service demands on the Department of Pharmacy services.

+ Serves as residency program director and continues to keep residency program accredited in accordance with ASHP.

Minimum Qualifications

+ Doctor of Pharmacy Degree

+ Successful completion of a Clinical Pharmacy Residency

+ Eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist in the State of Illinois

+ At least one (1) year of recent experience as a clinical pharmacy supervisor, within a hospital, long term care, nursing home, or clinic setting

+ Knowledge of computer applications, including database skills.
